it was just clumsy on Hamilton's part (again!) - yes, at one point he was in almost to the front wheel, but then half backed out and the collision was Hamilton's front wheel on Massa's rear. Its not really an overtaking area - if you're going to do it there you really need to make it a dominant move, clearly in front. He didn't. His move relied on the other driver getting the f*&% out of his way. He had to know Massa was not going to do that!

On the other hand, I feel it was pretty deliberate from Massa - he definitely saw him going up the inside but gave him the big "f*&% you"

You know its a strange call when the pommy BBC commentators are amazed that Hamilton didn't get penalised.

I completely agree Harry.

I still see it as Hamo's fault. But would like to see some GPS data to confirm it.

To my mind, Hamo needed to be much more forthright to take that position cleanly at that part of the track, and he simply wasn't.

Massa's not liable to gift him the spot is he? It's a dubious passing spot, and if Massa WAS to yield, then I reckon he would simply have to go wide into the dust, and hence, understeer off the track!

To make any pass clean and successful, the passing driver needs to have the capacity to drive his own car, but also "get his brain" into the car he wishes to pass, and decide then if the pass can be made successfully! I think even Lewis would admit (if he were honest) that he didn't do that.

the correct call was made. their front wheels were nearly level and there's no way Massa could not have known Lewis was there.

You cant really believe that!

Hamo, "I am Lewis "Victim" Hamilton...i only need to be near the back of the car in front and I should be gifted a position"

I am not sure if Massa was a little later on the brakes or if Hamo knew he wasnt far enough up the side, he was on the dirty side, he had the wrong line...err basically he had ham fisted it and was trying to get out of there. Massa has to be the most hit guy in F1 this year. Between Hamoo and Webber in Monza...he is a magnet...it seems everyone thinks he is a soft touch, including Alonso

IF Massa did back out of the corner, or run right off the track (his only 2 options to avoid contact) I doubt Hamilton would've been able to make the corner himself. With that line he would've run wide..

I was speaking to a few Hamilton fans today and even they agreed it was bullshit.

The stewards penalized the wrong party.

Lewis is right on the edge of the track and Fillipe had the whole right side of the circuit and chops him anyway. Massa could have just missed the apex like he's supposed to when someone's attempting to overtake up the inside (and is well and truly alongside). Hamo obviously trusted him to leave some racing room, and what was he supposed to do about it when Massa just jags the wheel left at the eleventh hour??

The replay doesn't show an overly ambitious overtake attempt, I feel. The stewards no doubt saw the collision as avoidable if Massa had chosen to avoid it.

yeah, see there's this thing called the racing line, that you need to take to make the corner at race speed. You can't just go wider and leave room without also going slower which he wasn't. Massa's only way through that corner at that speed was the line he took. This also suggests that Dezz's observation that Hamilton probably wouldn't have made the corner either is correct. And that's before you even take into consideration the dirty surface off-line. That's why the experienced drivers we have as commentators mentioned its one at a time through that section just one lap before.

Have since heard Hamilton admit in an interview he tried to pull out of the move. Half arsed passing attempt + half arsed pull out = complete Hamfisted effort. The guy's a hack.

Yep, I don't claim to be an experienced racer/race steward, but that was one of the easier calls imo. Not sure how they got it wrong to be honest...

As mentioned already, even Brundle and DC were saying Hamilton was to blame, and we all know how much they love to smoke his pole...

With all due respect, and you've been around a long time, but I reckon we'd go a long way to find a bigger Lewi fan boy!

Martin and David were both astonished with the stewards decision in my opinion, but they need to bite their collective tongues.

He has had far too many run-ins with Massa this year. Lewis seems increasingly frustrated with being held up by Fellipe, and Massa increasingly annoyed at Hamilton's attempts to pass.

I think the best thing to say about the incident was LH's decision to come down the inside was a tad optimistic, and FM's defense was overly aggressive.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
