Surprised nobody has posted up the announcements of dates for 2011.

Interesting to see how strong the field is in 2011.

I see in Japan these events have now turned into "enter ex-race cars" rather then tuner built-engineered road cars. Well at least thats my take on what looks to be an ex JGTC RX7 or at least an RX7 that has been built up using the shell of a JGTC FD posting a 53.6 last week.

It will be interesting to see if some other essentialy race cars, free of their class restrictions punch it out. I know what I would love to buy and enter but will just sit back and consider punting my thing up against some of the other 2L jiggers entered

Yeah mate I reckon an ex gt2 or gt3 type car would be good, corvette etc assuming you could find a tyre big enough.

Or how about one of those RX8s that run in the American Lemans series? Giddyup!

Or...... dare I say a Camaro? :P

I know the dates, but not sure if I am allowed to say or not. lol looks like they have been released already hahaha

Hopefully the club class field is better than last year, some of those cars had....um....intersting modifications

I hope plan to enter this next year, building a 26 for the sil80 after cracking the block in the 25.

You going in it Roy??

Well I am back in teh country for the first time since this thing kicked off and the car is back on the road these days so I have a car at least. I will go in for giggles if a few friends are entered and there are a few cars I can play with. All the money I am spending on my engine at the moment is resulting in less power :( ... but I have got some cool stuff to make the engine look quick :)

I think I should have my own class, with prize money and hookers.... a trophy woudl be good too!

Open Class seems to be where most cars will enter simply because of tyres. I know its where I will be and will probably be in the bottom 20%. I think Open will be very competitve with perhaps needing a class between Clun and Open, effectively Club guys with better rubber.

But, the event will nevber be all things to all men/entrants

Agreed, there is probably a need for a 'personal open class' and a 'workshop open class'. Or something like that. Where the 'personal' class has a similar rule to clubsprint, where the driver must be

the owner (not a company owned car etc), with non-pro drivers. You must have ownership papers etc etc. Then 'workshop' is for all the others, pro drivers, workshop cars etc etc.

The Revolution FD runs a tube-frame chassis so was not allowed to compete under Super Lap rules last year, but apparently is this year. Also last year, the Exige driven by Luff was a GT3 car so it would seem apart form the tube frame portion of the rules, it's only really tyres that becoming the limiting factor as to what you can run... as long as it's not a rear engined 6 cylinder :)

I really like that idea as well. Would suit me perfectly in my budget built S13 track car. I am entering for the first time this year, can't wait!!!

But, as I don't see it becoming an official class, we could just run our own unofficial "personal open class" here on SAU!!!

if you want to run only against other lower budget owner-drivers, just spend $800-1000 on KU36 or RSRs and run in Clubsprint. That's where you want to be anyway, Open class is too free - carbon doors, perspex etc etc. Plus you need a 5pt harness for Open class which is a bit of a PITA. Most of us would have to buy a seat and harness to make that work. The tyres will be good for street rubber after the event anyway so its not money wasted.

I may come down for a run, but EC won't suit my puny ~200kw full trim 180. May as well run the Aristo for laughs, and lobby for a fastest slushbox trophy! That way I won't need to make excuses for being slow either, I'll just point to the thing I'm driving and everyone will understand... will probably be eaiser to fit the required 4pt harness in the Aristo too. In the 180SX it's not really possible to fit a harness properly without a cage.

Harry - just stick a V160 in the aristo and when you are done with it give it to me for my Soarer :P

I think there needs to be the club sprint class for Semis and a class for road tyres.

EC plus big power plus road tyres just doesnt sound safe, as the driver of that Black S15 found out.

My full weight GTSt with no gadgets and truck turbo with me behind the wheel wont even be competitive in the Street class so may as well throw some tyres on the thing and see how quick we can go. Hell, enter both classes and find out the speed difference between tyres :)

That definitely makes sense if you have a road registered car.

My S13 hoever is not road registered. It's a track only, uncomplied car with a roll cage (read never goin to get road rego) so it's open class for me!

Not that I'm complaining, I have no real chance of winning a trophy, I just want to compete and try and beat my personal best lap times.

Hopefully there are some other competitors in similiar cars and pace that I can have fun with.

don't think I haven't thought about it!

Not a fan of doing it this way Harry?

that puts the harness mounting point higher than your shoulders (in my car anyway) which is a no-no for CAMS.

this is true too, but imagine being beaten by some Clubsprint cars while you're running semis! lol

For me, there's no way I'd lash out for a 5pt harness and suitable seat just to be able to do a sprint... You can circuit race tin tops in national championships or even international events with a 4pt.

haha, There is one here in Canberra with one, real rough looking car but sports a t04z and the 6 speed.

I wonder how my Soarer would go with street tyres and the auto and very average suspension.

Harry, I have a Cobra Evolution seat you're welcome to borrow. Heck, use the 5 point harness too!

I'll be removing the passenger side out of my GTS-t for this event. ;)

Unfortunately the classes will never suit averybody. Last year I aimed to run in street class but a cage put an end to that even though the car is otherwise very mildy modified.

I reckon it'd just be cool to run at the event :)

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
