Whats wrong with your 3 dials? My boost gauge isn't working, but I found a thread on Scotty's soldering fix, so I'll do that, get it working, then think about changing it :D

Iain has an RX, so no dials from factory.

when I got my suction pipe made by scott it increases airflow dramatically.

I think Cam experienced it too.

as well as scott jethro craig etc.

our Air flow signal cuts the engine when it reaches 4.80volts through the air flow meter(correct if a different figure)

You'll need to get it tune, and have the airflow clamped to get it to stop doing it. with an emanage etc.

mine has a 3inch pipe custom made from the turbo outlet to the airbox. if your doing that, I guarantee you'll hit an airflow cut.. just be ready for it!

Edit: and yeh stock injectors will max out with the suction pipe mod, which isnt very safe!

Yep, my turbo is very close to stock size it would seem.

Look forward to seeing how early it comes on with a tune :)

Suction pipe eliminates the air supply restriction caused by the stock intake piping to the turbo.

Unfortunately opening this out allows too much airflow under full throttle for the standard ECU fuel system.

It may not do it with an upgraded fuel system though.

its not hard at all to get to 4,500

So... the long term solution is obviously injectors, fuel pump and emanage.

What's the short term solution? Take it off (which I'm sure will be a pain in the arse!)?

well you can drive it around as normal. i think the airflow cut will be saving your engine from running TOO lean in the top end where the injectors are maxed.

but you will experience an air flow cut.

put it all back on when you go for a tune and emanage install! with injectors pump spacer(depending on brand of injectors you might need a plenum spacer) etc..

all my stuff was sitting in my room until i wanted to tune!

You were going well for a little while there Aaron, but quite wrong here.

Mine doesn't run out of puff at all.

no i meant your turbo is a stockish size, but it didnt mean that it wont cut with a larger suction pipe.

When you put the suction pipe on, didnt your start cutting in the 4k RPM range?

my first turbo rebuild was a stock size inducer, with a slightly larger exducer - but it would still cut.

Once you install the suction pipe you'll get airflow cut. This happened with me and that's with the stock turbo, at around 4k RPM

I timed it so that after I got the suction pipe, I had Scott's hi flow and injectors installed the next week, then off to tune on the Saturday.

You'd also have to baby the car till its tuned (this is if you upgrade the injectors and what not)...I got sick of staying off boost pretty quick!

Depending on the size of injector you're upgrading to, you won't be able to drive it unless you've got a basic map put in via a piggyback. My car was at Scotts for a few days getting all the mods put in and when it was ready to go Cihan came to install emanage and loaded a basic map into it so I can drive it...

no. i called him and explained what I meant.

It doesnt happen at specific revs.

it was just around where it happened...

It happens once your AFM receives and sends 4.8v+ to the ecu, from the increased air flow.

So the suction pipe doesn't max the injectors just the AFM? If that's the case wouldn't a fuel cut defender fix that by clamping at say 4.6V? If the injectors are maxed then obviously needs bigger injectors.

Surely you'll start leaning out the fuel mix REAL fast if youre doing it that way?

mine were maxing before it cut.

so my informeter told me anyway.

so i was forced to baby the car around lol

emanage can clamp the aiflow at 4.6 as mine is.. anything after that is mapped by a boost sensor plugged into the emanage.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.  
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.  
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
