Ok. I am seriously considering buying my family a Nintendo Wii. I think it will be the most suitable console for my family of Me, Missus and 4 year old daughter. They look like lots of fun that the WHOLE family can enjoy.

I have had 2 playstations over the years but aint much into them after a while. Though I have seen the latest Gran turismo and it does look bloody amazing.

I dunno anything about X-Box. Except for this new gizzmo that lets you play without controllers, which sounds cool.

I am steering towards the Wii, cause it looks like everyone can play it and have fun. And the "fitness" based games look great too. My missus is due to have a year and a half off work in the start of 2011 as we are expecting another child. So I thought a Wii would be suitable as it allows her to get fit without leaving the house!!

Keen to hear ya thoughts...

yea nintendo have done well to target the "family" gaming market and probably is the best if your looking at it that way. although now that theres xbox kinect and ps3 move they've all moved into the same area of the market there. i think wii's still the only one that offers the fitness games. overall the game selection on the wii is a lot more family friendly i think

i have a wii and a ps3. for general stuffing around the wii is great fun. for a bit more action type games then the ps3 is better (even though i only have 2 games on it - FF13 and GT5). on the wii i have mario kart, super mario, sports and sports resort and the new donkey kong (think there may be 1 other one but i can't remember what it is). they are great for just sitting down and playing when bored. also the wii consoles and games are generally the cheapest of the lot.

PS3 is hella overrated, if you HAVE to have GT5(most overrated game of the year), or Blu Ray then yeah, otherwise Xbox 360 is the go.

PS Move and Kinect are a waste of fkn time and yes i've used both.

Wii's have crappy graphics and a lot more crap games in general, only really any good for Mario games (of which most of the big sellers seem to be). Good for kids maybe, but you'll be disappointed if you want to play anything that's designed for anyone older than 10.

Online multiplayer: Xbox

Single player: PS3

Offline multiplayer: wii

lol

Nothing like having to pay to be allowed to play online, eh?

There is nothing wrong with PS3 online, it is fast and it is free.

The Wii, as with all Nintendo consoles is designed for actual human interaction with online and afterthought (although Mario Kart online is pretty damn good)

Nice work Mr Optimism :P

Nothing like an Xbox fan boy saying that the PS3 is over rated and the Wii is crappy (paraphrasing)

OP, get the Wii. Plenty of fun games for it and is great for a family to play (as well as drinking games when friends come over).

If you are a "hardcore" gamer, get a PS3 or Xbox.

XBOX Live is vastly superior to PSN, and if you can't afford $4 a month you should probably get off the dole.

If your going to be playing with other people all the time, get the Wii for sure, there funny/fun to play, Was playing Wii sports the other night with family and GF and playing golf is pretty hilarious.

But once you sit down and try and play by yourself it becomes pretty boring pretty quick (I dont have many wii games however)

Ive never really got the appeal of Xbox's, Forza I liked but Halo I didnt really enjoy. I guess it comes down to what youve always had cause lately PS3 and Xbox seem to close to call. Both have Pro's and Con's.

So I say wii if a couple of people will be playing it often, Or if not, then whatever controller you perfer out of the PS3 and Xbox as that seems to be my biggest dislike of the Xbox because I'm so used to PS3, basically being biased but oh well

Check out the list of games on each system and read the reviews and make your decision on whoch will best suit. Do some research and learn about all three consoles.

I dont know if this helps but the xbox got console of the year for 2010.

LOL

It is not the amount, it is the principle.

xbox online is for nerds.

actually, a majority of online play is for nerds

Agreed

I'm not biased towards any console, they are all shit for ruining PC gaming.

Xpox wins though due to better exclusives, and slightly less sucky graphics than the PS3.

LOL...not biased??? read your posts...all of them. you might be shocked

no what I'm doing is bursting the bubbles of PS3 fanboys who somehow think they have a superior console based on anything other than purely subjective reasons (ie shape of the controller etc).

TBH the only thing that sways me towards the Xbox is the fact that it has more DLC and platform exclusives than the PS3. The only two of any note for the PS3 are GT5 (which everyone I know was disappointed with, bucking the trend of the forumgoers here) and Final Fantasy.

I still think Xbox games are bloody awful compared to the PC, CODBLOPS looked shitful, though the multiplayer was set up a lot better.

I don't think I'm biased due to owning an Xbox, Xbox 360 and a PS2, as well as always playing my mates PS3s and xboxes due to none of them owning a decent PC.

Yeah they tried to make consoles too much like computers and in doing so have diluted the computer gaming experience with sub par graphics due to multi platform releases, and games that have to hold the player's hand all the way through, but that's a topic for a whole different thread!

In regards to the Wii, what I said speaks for itself. Shite graphics, TONS of gimmicky games that nobody wants, and generally used for first party games (ie Wii Fit, Sports, Mario etc)

It actually is kind of a bad thing. Especially with students. Only a few years ago socializing with your mates would be kicking a ball or going for bike rides. These days it's all jumping online and seeing who gets the best k/d ratios.

Even i, on many occasions, have preferred to just stay home and jump online than go out and have a few drinks with the boys.

    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
