i jacked the car up nice and high to day and i have noticed i have an oil leak

it appears to be the return oil line for the front turbo.

general area around is oily but not dripping!

i am pleased to have found this as i have a new set of gt2860-5 along with Tomei manifolds and dumps to go in the next 2 weeks

i hope this is the only oil consumption

That may be part of it, but I wouldn't go getting excited and fitting new turbos and manifolds until you have the root cause correctly diagnosed.

Don't half do it, have the leak down test done by a competent workshop.

i dont think a leaking oil return would result in your breather collecting that much oil. i know you've got a case of wishful thinking but if you make the hard decisions early you can save yourself more damage being done to the motor.

dont learn the hard way.

Just so you know, nissan spec for oil consumption is 1L every 2000kms. Anything higher then that is deemed unacceptable. However you blowing smoke, so i would be gettin a leak down test asap.

1L in 2000 km's, you serious? Maybe in a 300,000+ km engine it would be acceptable

No, it's even worse that that!

Nissan say acceptable is 1l per 1,000klm. We fought with them for year about our 350z which did exactly that, they never fixed it.

The old LS1s all consumed almost 1L/1000kms which is why half them had to be warrantied, there is still quite a few going around that couldn't get warranty using almost that much oil though.

A new car used 1L/1000KM???

Did they eventually sort it out after 1 year?

Stories like that make me never want to buy a brand new car. We did about 3 years ago and its been really good, but it was always in the back of my mind if something major went wrong car manufactures can make life very difficult.

P.S. Sorry to go off topic.

Regarding the bloke who started the thread, are you getting the leakdown test done. Surely a workshop could do this at short notice for you or even the engine builder could do it for you??

thats a warranty cop out (all manufacturers have the same clause), i worked for nissan and depending on the attitude of the customer and its previous use we made report, then a decision was made to replace or build engine. We actually replaced a few blown nizpro engines under warranty for the special edition 200sx-R's they built 10--odd years back.

i took the car back to south side engine center today

they did comp test (4psi of variance across all 6 cylinders)

leak-down test (6-7% leak down across all 6 cylinders)

put a camera down the spark plug holes to inspect the bores and condition of the pistons.

and all looked sweet i had a look myself!!.

conclusion i have been told to put my new turbos on

put new O2 senors in

change oil and get tuned car tuned asap as it is running too rich witch may be washing oil from the bores

so as it stands i'm very happy with the result.

Is this info in the owners manual???

the leak down is pretty bad?

My 100,000 old RB25DET engine that ran 200rwkw for about 2 years had 2% leak down across all 6.

I guess different testers would give different values but i would think what is more important like compression test, is the variance between individual cyls ?

Hmm. We have had a petrol navara in at work which had a problem with using excessive oil. Liased with nissan's techline and told us to do a ECU relearn with a patch file they sent us. Apparently one of the banks reads a little leaner then the other, and this can cause excessive oil consumption. Did the relearn and its seemed to fix the problem.

The info is not in the owners manual. Basically had to ask one of the nissan engineerers for the specs.

did they explain why a lean mixture will cause oil consumption?

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
