Hello all,

Was turning through an intersection and clutched in to down shift. As I was clutching in, i heard something go crack. Changed into 2nd and lifted off the clutch pedal to notice that the pedal has lost about 2/3 of its travel?

The clutch is sitting further to the floor now. I can still change from 1st to 2nd and limped it back home. In the driveway with the car off, clutched in and cycled through the gears. It was making crunchy noises on 3rd, 4th, 5th and when I went back to 1st and second it would also.

I have read on ns.com about breaking clutch brackets? Is this a similar issue on r32s? Im assuming I broke some bracket and the clutch isnt fully engaging hence the notchy gear changes?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Yep, happens a lot. 1 of 2 things.

1. pedal box has broken. there are only a few spot welds that hold it together.

2. 1 of the 2 mild steel studs that come off the pedal box and go throught the firewall to the master cyl have sheared. Happened to mine after a whole day of drifting at winton, it only broke about 20 mins from home changing easily from 2nd to 3rd. driving home rev matching was fun.

Thanks for the help guys,

Do you know where I can get a strengthened clutch pedal box from and any steps on how to swap them over? Cant seem to find any information.

Thanks

Basically you got to remove the whole front dash so you can get access to remove the pedal box. What I did was repair my existing one gave it to my dad since hes a welder and welded it up properly as appose to how it only has a few spot welds or you can get another one give it to a welder to strengthen up if your worried about it breaking again.

WHAAAAATTTT! That's crap.

All you need to do is lay in the car and unbolt it. 10min job with a long socket extention.

You could buy an expensive nismo one.

Or just take it off and take it to a welder for a 6 pack.

If it's the bolts do what I did. Drill them out and replace with high tensile bolts.

Easy job.

From what i can see, there are two bolts through the firewall holding on the bracket. Although not sure how to undo the bolts? Ive read that they have to be undone in the engine bay? (behind the master cylinder?)

Anyone know where I can find a nismo clutch bracket in Melbourne asap? Dont want to wait 2-3days for shipping.

Cheers

hrmm really, thats good that the skyline ones can be removed like that, the falcon one I had to take of the dash well atleast now thats abit of a relief if mine lets go in the skyline.

3 bolts. 2 in the engine bay, one under dash.

Thanks for that, swapped it over on the weekend.

Was a pain pulling it out but managed in the end.

Snapped in two sections. The mounting hole was gone and one of weld sections was cracked.

Putting the spring back on was a bitch too.

Thanks all for the help.

pedal box man, if you haven't removed it or replaced it by now, do so !, you can weld them up stronger then before, nismo actually do this to prevent brakages. i do it in my nissans too as insurance, as this has happined to me.

gl and if you want me to weld it up, pay me a visit. dave

    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
    • Quite right, if you make it to that pension you deserve every cent
    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
    • That's all good, I thought I was missing some interesting feature! Maybe @PranK can double check if that is something that is meant to be operating or not.
