i think i'll be doing the turbo very shortly so i'll get it done then scotty :)

What turbo? Only asking because if you go the same as mine(which you can) you need to use a shorter actuator which is supplied by the turbo place.

yeah probly the same as ur's the GT30/71 core........... there's no point in maxing out a stage 1 when i might aswell go a stage 2 and detune it.

300kwaw is the goal or whatever <550hp at the crank is.......... dont feel like breaking everything LOL

has anyone else been told by shannon's that they wont insure them unless the car is parked in a garage??? surely there is another solution..............

atm its parked in a carport behind a locked colourbond fence and there's no room in the garage due to project cars being in there.

who else might insure a modified import with my bad licence history, no accedents but! and yes im over 25 :P

Depends on your suburb mate. Shannons have categories for on the street parking, driveway/carport and LUG.

If you tick to many boxes/don't tick enough they won't offer insurance.

They had a Volvo 240 parked on the street at redfern- the premium was over $1500 from memory. More than the car.....

Yes, I tried Shannons and they knocked me back for not parking in the garage...

So I'm with JCI. They aren't THAT bad...but you do get what you pay for...haven't had to make a claim with them yet...

turns out i was panacing for nothing NRMA will insure a modified vehicle, apparently they dont give a crap anymore and you dont even have to list the modifications :D

ok havent updated for a while cos i've just wasted all my cash on rego/greenslip and insurance but..............

i'm hoping to gather all the parts i need to get about 500HP at the crank (running 98RON)......... so what am i looking at:

i've got the ecu sorted, and brake upgrade for the fronts underway.

need some help with the check list.........

HDi EBC

stage 2 highflow turbo

injectors..... what size, i just want the straight plug and play ones (Deatschwerks) ?

fuel pump.............

scotty's wastegate actuator

will i need to do custom suction pipe???

alloy radiator and nismo thermostat

do i need to do other gearbox mods ???

anything else i need to consider ???

Injectors- the smallest possible size that still achieves your power goal, and provides a decent amount of head room. Will explain.

The 3.5:1 final drives will make your car more drivable, reduce gearbox strain, and make it go faster

Gearbox- well, depends how you drive it I think. If you want to go hard all the time, or track it, then I think you'll need to build the box. If you want a cruiser with the occasional squirt, as long as it survives the dyno, it'll probably be fine. As long as you can get it up on stall / boost for a launch.

Fuel pump, there is a few 300l/min drop ins available now- you'd have to figure out if they are any good.

New set of plugs, if you haven't done em lately

Maybe set of electric fans to ditch the clutch fan, and gain more controllability over temps

Maybe oil cooler - same remarks as gearbox build really.

So, injectors. When you tune these things, the factory computer has a table called torque management. In simple terms, it tells the gearbox what pressure to run at set RPM on one axis and base fuel schedule on the other. When you drop in bigger injectors, this has a radical effect on the base fuel schedule calculation- reducing it. What that means is that the car will never see the areas of the map where the factory has programmed a higher line pressure for a better change. You'll only get lower line pressure, and therefore slower shifts. Unfortunately there is no way to change this on the cursed NM35 ECU. So, instead of going 1000cc injectors, get something that will see your power goal, but not reduce BFS so much that you drop out of the higher pressure areas of the table. ok? thumbsup.gif

i might aswell let the cat out of the bag, im the one who bought the HKS F-con V-Pro :D

I've done a but of research and I'm not sure about Deatschwerks. ID1000s are about the same price and you can get plug and play tails for them.

Apparently you'll also need the suction pipe.

I've got similar goals and my list is...

HKS F con

HKS EVC 6

ID1000s

Deatschwerks 300lph fuel pump, rewired

Suction pipe and cold air intake

Also doing power steering and Trans cooler, and shift kit.

Did you work out your dramas after you changed the hoses?

this is a screen shot of what I mean. These are factory values. Imagine a car ramping up right to the far right side of the table. Then you drop big injectors in and the car reduces to a base fuel schedule max of 12.00. See what values you get then?

That issue you can put down to the tuner not having enough experience with VQ's, and the fact your ecu isn't expecting the boost hit. Our stock ecu is fine, with Emanage, Fcon and whatever injectors you want to put in. Verified by Cihan, proven by me. :whistling:

    • I normally run with I think a 10mm, and definitely use the second handle you can add to a drill. They hurt when they bins up!   For the crush tube, once all subframe is clear, I'd try some stilsons and see if I can get it to start to twist.
    • Probably because they couldn't, because the use of the variable resistor to create a "signal" in the ECU is managed by the ECU's circuitry. The only way that VDO could do it would be if they made a "smart" sensor that directly created the 0-5V signal itself. And that takes us back to the beginning. Well, in that case, you could do the crude digital (ie, binary, on or off) input that I mentioned before, to at least put a marker on the trace. If you pressed the button only at a series of known integer temperatures, say every 2°C from the start of your range of interest up to whatever you can manage, and you know what temperature the first press was at, then you'd have the voltage marked for all of those temperatures. And you can have more than one shot at it too. You can set the car up to get the oil hot (bypass oil coolers, mask off the air flow to oil coolers, and/or the radiator, to get the whole engine a bit hotter, then give it a bit of curry to get some measurements up near the top of the range.   On the subject of the formula for the data you provided, I did something different to Matt's approach, and got a slightly different linear formula, being Temp = -22.45*V + 118.32. Just a curve fit from Excel using all the points, instead of just throwing it through 2 points. A little more accurate, but not drastically different. Rsquared is only 0.9955 though, which is good but not great. If you could use higher order polynomials in the thingo, then a quadratic fit gives an excellent Rsquared of 0.9994. Temp = 2.1059*V^2 - 34.13*V + 133.27. The funny thing is, though, that I'd probably trust the linear fit more for extrapolation beyond the provided data. The quadratic might get a bit squirrely. Hang on, I'll use the formulae to extend the plots.... It's really big so you can see all the lines. I might have to say that I think I really still prefer the quadratic fit. It looks like the linear fit overstates the temperature in the middle of the input range, and would pretty solidly understate what the likely shape of the real curve would say at both ends.
    • I got a hand held bisssel one and it's a piece of shit. Doesn't work for more than about 5 seconds. So much so that I nearly refuse to believe any wet dry vac actually works or has enough suction to clean the carpet of a car. I'm discouraged as all the good ones are $300+ for an unknown result.     • That could very well be the thermistor, but the ECU only sees Volts. VDO don't seem to provide a 0-5 volt curve, only the resistance curve.... (or line).
    • Yes. Probably, given that there is only access from the bottom end of it, go with a drill bit. Don't start too small. 7 or 8mm is probably the right size. You want something that can make a big enough hole to do some damage, but not so bit that it clashes with the steel or binds up and breaks your wrist. A slow speed is probably a good idea too. Once the rubber is destroyed, you then have to get the crush tube off the stud, which will be the whole heat/oil/cutting exercise all over again, but this time with the need to strictly avoid damaging the stud (any further than the corrosion might already have done.
