Mitchell's Pass Rd from Blaxland down to Emu Plains has just been reopened since the rockfall of 2009 :)

And they've made it a 40km/h zone.

I could now get busted for speeding on my pushbike.

Well, at least down to Lennox Bridge, one has to scan the speedo...

I don't trust the constabulary not to set up a sneaky trap at the sweeping righthander at the bottom.

At least it's open though, can't complain too much.

Hi all

First great drive is from Thredbo to Khancoban along the Alpine Way then about 5ks after Khancoban turn right up to Cabramurra, through Kiandra and then a high speed drive to Cooma.

Second is from Dungog to the Buckets Way, turn left to Gloucester and on to Walcha along Thunderbolts way, across to Dorrigo then Waterfalls Way down to the coast via Belligen.

Third, The Putty road from Bulga to the halfway house and back.

But the ultimate is Targa Tasmania.

Safety Fast please.

Thanks, good info...

A few of us on the Chocolate Cruise did the Mtchell's Pass loop yesterday.

Nice short ONE WAY strip from the bridge to the carpark at the bottom. No speed signs by Penrith Council or Dept of Roads up yet in that section yet.

Terry, my neighbours grandson has only had his licence for a few months, drives a hyundai getz and is no way a car enthusiast or lead foot driver got pulled over at the bottom of mitchells pass at the carpark area and was done for doing 60 something in an alleged 40 zone, i never do 40 on my bianchi down there, but then again i dont want to add wear and tear to my brakes. i took the liberty down the other day and tried to do 40 down the second section it was difficult, may i say near impossible. so unfortunately i just avoid driving the car down there now.

Police cannot plant themselves on those bends of Mitchell's Pass as you can patently tell.

They'd have to be in the carpark and by the time we come to the last bend, we've slowed down!

He must have got pinged for entering the carpark too quickly!

I've heard that the rozzers have been walking up from the old GWH (behind the locked gate) below the straight section, and getting people with a handheld gun coming down to the left hander just before the final straight section. They then pull you up as you exit onto the GWH.

As has been mentioned; it's now a 40 km/h zone & since it has been closed & reopened, I've noticed a lot more cyclists riding UP; which could get very ugly if a car was moving fast.

I'll admit to going quite quickly down there in the past, but be aware there are a lot more cyclist than I've seen before.

Thanks for the feedback fellahs.

Forewarned is forearmed even though I came down there again this morning. I hadn't noticed any 40Km sign below Lennox Bridge yet.

Hate to get pinged doing 72 in a 40 zone gulp.

Heya all smile.gif

I drove to Jenolan Caves yesterday for a caving trip and took the GTR out as I remember the roads being kinda fun. Well damn was I right!!

Jenolan Caves Rd from the Great Western Highway is awesome. Very open, easy to drive at speed with relative safety and the roads aren't that bad at all (I run TEIN Super Streets on 18s)

It's a big boring drive along the highway to get there, but for a nice day trip with the missus, I strongly suggest taking the 'fast car' out for a blat wink.gif

Also, Hawkesbury Rd at Yarramundi. My fave local hillclimb!! I've never had a car stick with me, even when I had the bridgeport RX3, and the GTR is even faster up there. Willing to accept any challengers smile.gif

Mark!!

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
