BUT all said they should go spend there time on proper stuff like Drunk Drivers, Burglars and bloody rioters (in Redfern or where ever).

why is a dickhead in their car on a public street just as bad as a burglar or drunk driver?

i saw a pretty keen guy in a Jeep weaving in and out of peak hour morning traffic along the M4 this morning. dunno what was wrong with him but he even went onto the shoulder of the road to get by slow traffic. what a moron.

i believe the reason why *any* modified exhaust is illegal is because it alters the emmissions of the vehicle - and NOT ONLY the sound...

getting an engineers certificate qualifying it as meeting epa regulations will make the aforementioned null and void - this is my understanding of the rules as set out by the RTA.

now, who can install my screamer pipe? :(

There are noise regulations as well dude... I think it's 92dB limit?

Oh, and a screamer pipe basically dumps exhaust straight from the engine out into atmosphere, bypassing all emissions devices, so if that's doesn't "alter the emissions of a vehicle", nothing will :)

I have some experiance in this stuff.A cop once said to me, 'anything you do to a standard production vehcile is a modification, and modified vehciles must be engineered'. The sad part is,if you go by the exact letter of the law,he was right.

There are some mods that can be "owner certified" though (small things) as long as the replacement items are similar in design and intent to the stock parts....but if you get pulled over, and the copper disagrees with you, who's going to win? :(

There's more detaild info on the RTA's website,so to be forewarned....

Personally, when I finish my car,I'm going to have every single thing I've done to it listed on an engineers report. As long as there's pricks out there,we have to make our cars prick-proof.

I saw a guy on the way home who went almost as much of the way as I did, 40ish, brand new SS ute with mags (non standard) and an exhaust.

never used an indicator once!@@&^#( now had that been me, there would have been a cop waiting somewhere to get me. never fails

I have had 2 cops that were both like the ones you described. I was just upfront and honest with them. but he said I was being a smart arse? I couldn't work it out.

so now I just smile and nod unless it justifies a verbal response.

Unfortunately skylines are now branded as a typical "street racer" vehicle - so the extra attention we receive is to be expected.

Be careful though, as sticking a tape recorder/mobile phone in their face can quickly turn a calm cop who was just going to give you a warning into an agressive and angry cop

Not if you are recording the conversation I wouldn't imagine! If the cop has any brains they'll suddenly turn as meek as a kitten. If not, well he isn't going to look too good if later found to be flying off the handle and getting emotional and its on all on tape.

Okay, well believe that if you want, but they can't get in trouble for being aggressive if they have reason to be. In any case, fine... So they're angry and fuming on the inside at your gall to dare to tape them... But are meek and compliant on the outside, whilst raping you over and defecting you for every little thing wrong with your car.

I think to make matter worse, you have to remember that the person standing next to your window is at work, probably getting paid a crap salary, can’t wait to go home, looking forward to retirement from his/her job, has no idea what an engine should look like let alone knows how to start the mower on the weekend, relies on the uniform as a form of intimidation, probably couldn’t spell unintelligible or incomprehensible, and has a mortgage to pay while supporting 2.3 kids and saving for a new washing machine.

yes, I can understand that.

But when he would come to work and take it out on a poor individual he just pulled over is very unprofessional.

I have been guilty of it too. I work in support, and sometimes you have a bad day, but you have to grab hold of yourself and say stay calm, its cool. you just can't help it sometimes, but it looks twice as bad for the police to do it, because they are in a position of power and very public view

and it would all be on tape as well just to sting that little bit more when you go back over it to see if they were out of line

Best thing to do with cops - esspecially if your in the wrong is just shut up and say nothing... all you have to do is give them your name/address if they ask for it and your license etc... anything else, details of the car/what your doing/who owns the car etc... you dont have to tell them

most of the time the more you tell them the bigger hole you dig..

if the cop seems ok, you can be normal, but as soon as you detect he is going to be a dick etc, just shut up and say nothing...

Exactly, there are guidelines and things which the police have to follow. Even if the person they've pulled is acting like a total fool, the officer can't just fly off the handle without due reason. If you're acting like a dick fine, you're gonna get whats coming to you. If the officer has just had a bad day and wants to rip the person's throat out, then thats a different matter.

If they you are in the wrong, sure, recording things won't help. But if they are acting in an unreasonable manner too many times if a recording of the situation was done it would have helped later. I've know people who have been physically abused by police for even just a verbal comeback - now if you think that is how a cop should be acting then fine.

Okay dude... But let my words echo in your head when you stick a tape recorder in a cop's face and he calmly and politely asks you to pop your bonnet and gets out his defect notice pad on what WAS a routine stop.

Believe what you will. I subscribe to the school of thought:

"Don't do anything to make them more upset... Just sit there and shut up and answer only when necessary. Be polite and you'll be on your way soon enough."

edit: Let me finish by asking you (doxx and predator) a question: Imagine you were a police officer, who was pissed off from dealing with idiots all day and copping abuse all day and just wants to get home... You pull over a young kid who was driving "enthusiastically" just to see where he lived and see the car wasn't stolen, etc etc... and as you approach the window, the kid sticks a tape recorder out of the window and says to you "Officer, I will be taping this conversation. Do you have any objections?"

What would your reaction be, considering that you're already in a foul mood? (This is a reasonable assumption as usually this is when the officers are being rude and aggressive as per this discussion) Be honest. What would your reaction be?

I know that I'd get even more jaded and upset, and even though I'd put on a calm exterior for the tape recording, I'd be seething inside, and depending on my vindictive personality, I might just rape you for all you're worth.

Just something to think about I guess?

edit2: Then again I guess it is also possible that the officer gets scared and backs down from your show of resolve and strength mamoru.gif

Seriously most cops that hand out defects dont know shit about cars, let alone car related laws. If they put as much effort into catching criminals as they do with hasselling import drivers Australia would be a safer place.

Wine red 25t

If that same prick keeps handing out tickets for nothing, then send a complaint into the police ethical squad or that other place u can complain about asshole cops. If theres a bunch of you being hasseled then all send in complaints and the pig will get what he desirves.

Just like normal people they are smartasses till they get put in their place.

    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
