yes i have been thinking about this to but on a 30/26, i think to get the most out of them you/i would need to spend $50,000 to get the car to move and another $50,000 to get a car to the point were you can drive it, even then i think it would be a pig of a thing on the street and would just be a expensive dick swinging exercise.

i think you should sell them (you get $1200/$1500 for them each) and get -5's, they will be all the turbo you need and the car would be alot nicer to drive but it would still be scary to drive to.

btw -5's cost $2000/2500 so if you sell the 2835's you can afford them ezy.

agree but i seriously dont know.how it would cost you 100k plus car

Ever had a workshop build you a car instead of build one yourself? lol

Every small part adds up and every dollar counts. How much is a gearbox to cope with that much power, 10k? Or am I kidding myself and its probably more... How bout the clutch, drive shafts, diffs.. Put a hole in 20k yet? How bout your motor, you will put a hole in 10k on parts alone to build a 500rwkw motor, call it another 10 on a decent head setup right? I mean were talking round figures once you add up all the loose ends... You don't reuse bolts on a big build motor you realize..

Then what, you gonna use stock manifods? Or fork some good coin on something like 6boost items. Had a read of the recent 6boob manifold install thread for a GTR? All the niggly little problems that the guy went through, imagine paying a mechanic to do that for you.. I haven't even scratched the surface..

Building big cars requires bigger wallets. Even building a basic bolt on car cost a small fortune, I think one thing this website needs is a basic price index.

Anyway, GL to OP.

Yeah maybe if the shop was doing a ground up rebuild of the entire car....

It's ballistic money, and not what I would consider amazing value, but what other people do with their own money is not really my business :)

My RB26 made 411rwkw on high mount 2835 52T's on a built engine at 'only' 16psi. Came in at 5,300, full boost at 6,000 and went to 9,500+ power still rising, using 280° 11.5mm cams.

as others have said, I wouldn't use these as a 'bolt-on' upgrade.

If these are the ones off my car (which I'm guessing they may be) you will not make 450+kw with them unless you go all out porting the head etc.

They made 530rwhp on my car on 24psi. Stock head, stock cams. They hit HARD at 5500rpm and are a lot of fun.

As for an overall setup, I prefer the T04Z I have now, as it seems a bit more responsive and makes closer to 600rwhp, albeit it's a bit more linear.

These twins will be great, but you need to spend the coin on the head to make them work.

I was just about to start a topic on building the head. What cams, how much lift, over size values etc. As much info as i can find. Or preferably buy a head that's already been built for something similar.

What i had picked up is around 270-280 degree cams with around 10mm lift, over sized ex valve...

Sounds to me like you just want to be able to say i have twin 2835's on my GTR..... bragging rights are great when you tell people you make 500rwkw with twi 2835's, but it all goes to shit when your mates 250rwkw SR leaves you in his tyre smoke because you have so much lag

You will not be happy with them and your car will not make 500rwkw on a basic engine build

As has been said before, head work will be mandatory to make this sort of power and it will have to be done well to work properly. Prepare to spend about $3k on porting alone as a base price. you could spend less but the time spent on a head to support 500rwkw will not get you any change from $3k. You will then need to have some pretty decent hardware in the head to make it all stay together

The bottom end will need to have some decent bits put into it and again, will need to be put together by someone who knows how to build an RB26 properly. To make 500rwkw with this turbo set up you will need to spin it to over 9500rpm and it will need a considerable amount of boost to do it as well. I am not talking 30psi+ but you will be stretching pump fuel limits to make 500rwkw so consider switching the car to E85. A standard crank will put up with 9500+ for a short time but it wont do it for ever. Consider buying a Tomei/Crower stroker kit or something similiar. Be prepared to spend about $6k on parts, then assembly.

A gearbox and clutch will definitely be on the cards. A PPG gearbox once setup will cost you close to $10k, then about $3500 for a quality multi plate. I wouldnt use a synchro box, i would go dog with that much power which means a maintenance schedule then needs to be adopted to maintain the dogs engagement etc You would probably be looking at 10,000klms max between services for a dog box

We havent even started on fuel system, engine management, cooling etc

I dont think people realise just how much money you need to spend to support 500rwkw reliably. I would budget minimum $50k to build a car to support this much power.

If i was you i would be selling them off and getting a hold of a T78-33D kit, or a TO4Z kit. We make 460rwkw on pump with a T78 and with head work we see boost at about 3000rpm, on full boost no later than 4000rpm. A twin 2835 kit, even with head work, will not see boost before 5000rpm and that makes for a very very slow car

If these are the ones off my car (which I'm guessing they may be) you will not make 450+kw with them unless you go all out porting the head etc.

whats wrong with them?

Lets start again. Ok. If i budget 10g for the head. Would these or a t04z be better for a street driven car? Will i have to go as full on building the head if i use a t04z. What kinda power figures will you pull from a 04 wi i the 0.81 rear housing? I'll be using a hks version not a garrett or other brand.

no point having a well done head if your bottom end cant hold up to the power.

i wouldnt wana push any more than 350kw out of a stock bottom end.

just for example, a CRD full race head is about 9k + using full jun catalogue with 280* + cams then you still gota add a intake plenum ontop of that price. Hypertune plenum n throttle body is $2600 + install so there is an idea of how much you will be looking at.

also throw a tune on top of that so say a full tune is another 1k +

Hey mate,

10'000 is definitely enough money to get you a nice fresh head with plenty of work.

T04Z will be an infinitely better proposition on the street (I prefer twins and I still say this)

you get all the bonuses of a single turbo, packaging, ease to work on and set up, reduced costs and conversely you would get none of the bonuses of a twin setup with 2835's.

I see only benefits here mate, especially for a street car.

I see no reason why you couldn't make an absolute minimum of 400AWKW with the HKS turbo, probably substantially more then this.

As for my opinion, I reckon go HKS 2530/ GT2860-5 for a very responsive 420ishAWKW.

Cheers,

Mitch.

Well for my 2c I've seen people get what they think is a reasonable compromise from an externally wastegated GT3582R on RB26s . The last one I went behind was in a VL and it was typical RB26 in a reasonably light (1400ish) car .

I don't think it had big cams and felt reasonable with a 1.06 AR Garrett turbine housing .

The owner reckoned it was scary fast and borderline uncontrollable on full boost .

Poor fella , his missus works in an Audi dealership and brings home toys on weekends . He said she lined him up in some sort of TT V6 AWD auto thing and absolutely wasted his pride and joy ... Dreams destroyed he didn't keep the VL for long after that .

Yea the bottom end has the works. All except extended sump. But has a baffle kit in. Got forged pistons, rods bearing what ever else i got in the build. It was a head gasket down build. As nothing was done with the head except for a face pressure test and what ever else they did to it. As at the time i was un certain of the direction of the car!

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
