Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a bunkie for some lols, basically wanna have a cheap car that I can play about with mechanically and learn how to look after etc

Those are the options for sale in Perth at the moment ... the budgets a MAX of 1000 for the car (unrego'd is fine) but id really rather not go the whole 1000, most of those are about 600-800 unrego'd .. the pulsars are about there but with rego!

I need it to be ok on reliability (not screwing up every few weeks - I dont make enough money for that!) and cheap on parts

I'd love the ke30, but the one for sale at the moment is a bit of a nightmare ... went to see it today and was a bit taken aback by the amount of work it would need

To be practical im leaning towards the corollas or the pulsar .. but the galant is tempting me as well

What do you guys think!

before i owned the skyline i had the N13 pulsar (1990). very easy to work on and learn. parts are dirt cheap ( wreckers, if not your local holden dealer).

the engine is pretty solid and killing one is pretty hard. if you do, second hand engines are dirt cheap anyway. they are good on fuel awell.

i'm also looking for another N13 as a daily myself.

I had a N13 SSS but it needed oil top ups weekly as it had a head job ;) but it used to leak a little.

In my experience with $1k and under bunkies, they will all blow headgaskets... = $$ so I gave up and bought a decent daily.. AU Falcon ftw.

Yeah most of the cars do have blown headgaskets .. the ke30 has one haha

But I just want the car for some fun in the garage, may think about getting a better daily one day in the future but for now im not making enough money!

From what people have said ill be leaning towards the pulsar or the galant

the galant has apparently had a full mechanical check and everything and only needs a few things to pass the pits which the seller specified in the ad ...

corolla man.. i voted 89 but meant to vote the Ke, I had a stack of geminis one with a webber and extractors/exhaust but my mates 1.2 stock corolla could beat it. The Gemini was great for circle work in the dirt though which is why id get something rwd so you can slide it around.. ;)

One thats not on your list though and i think would be the best car to get would be a late 70s escort they are magnificent little cars,, i picked a mint one up for 300 a few years back, all it needed was a new clutch , even standard it handled like a dream. They have been raced in rallys with lots of success, look em up

Yeah I'd love the KE but was really worried about this one .. 800 bucks for it and it was pretty bad and I dont have much experience working with cars and theres a ton of work so not too sure if i could handle it :(

But its really my favourite car on that list ..

Ahhh I forgot the escort! I'll have a look for any on sale, Perth has a pretty crappy range of cars for sale :(

Their all worth a fair bit now if their in good condition!

Id love a car from the 70s, great bodywork ... but all the ones for sale in Perth at the moment are pretty much in terrible condition ..

Thats the KE30 i went and had a looked at ..

Plus side to ^, get the head done properly, new cooling system and it'll be good forever..

I'm really tempted to buy this as a fun thrash car..... http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-Honda-Civic-94-W0QQAdIdZ286017205

Hahaha yeah I did think for 800 it was a bit expensive, but its such a nice car .. but the interior on its real shoddy .. basically falling apart ... couldnt even get the key out of the ignition :s

Since I don't really know much to begin with about cars I couldnt tell if the car was alright or not, may bring someone with more knowledge with me and check it out with a battery and some fuel so it can go for a drive!

Anybody know how much a head gasket would cost to fix up?

I think its originally blue .. the engine bay was in a light blue, but the outsides of the car were sprayed black .. poorly unsure.gif

Civics are good cars .. but I'm asian ... asian boy in a honda civic ... stereotype much?

That 100 dollar pricetag is a deceiving lil trick! actually going for 2800 hahahaha

400,000kms with a blown headgasket and he wants 800$

TELL HIM HES DREAMING!!

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
