domino_z
in my non-engineering degree opinion I think it's mostly to do with the larger turbo inlet pipes this is the only engine side change and imo Nissan will use the diameter of these pipes to drip feed the increase in power each facelift the turbo opening is 2" yet 08-10 pipe diameter is 1.76" the 11 inlets taper to 2" at the turbo now just like most aftermarket pipes I tried installing my Top Secret pipes and just couldn't do it from under or inside the engine bay. I'm hoping Martin will be able to do it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/365871-new-2011-r35-first-impressions/page/2/#findComment-5894263 Share on other sites
Kisuu_Buta
I have just read this very entertaining article from the great pommy loud mouth Jeremy Clarkson! Munro
Thats a great article by Clarkson - exept the ugly bit - he obviously didnt get to test a BLUE one! I have to stop taking it to work as I keep wanting to look out onto the street to check it out! I loved my last Gun Metallic R35 but this blue beast just seems to get better and better looking the more I see it. Absolutley brilliant car. The sound of it on downchange with the new pipe is much better now. A mate of mine that runs a prestige dealership took it for a burn with me yesterday and he couldn't believe how quick the transmission is. We were driving the new V10 R8 a few weeks back and he agreed that the Nissan gearbox is light years ahead of the other offerings at the moment. Of course I haven't had the pleasure of driving the 458 yet ( I have sat in one and reved the %^# out of it though!) so I cant comment on Ferraris new box. Beer Baron
nice. what were the old 35s making on your mainline martin? I know on our DD they were around 280-290awkw dead standard and it varied a little car to car. 313kw is a decent number. I know on our DD they were around 280-290awkw dead standard and it varied a little car to car. 313kw is a decent number. The same Beer Baron. Around 290awkw stock on the Mainline. The 2011 car runs more boost, and is leaner than the earlier cars hence the greater power output. If anyone is interested I can put together some excellent stock and tuned MY09/10 vs MY11 GTR dyno charts today. Any interest? (I need to know as it will take me an hour or so to do!) Very Interested. I am still trying to work out exactly what mods were done to the MY11 to achieve a 3sec 0-100. Also do you have an email tune for E85/98 that will be ok for a while before an actual dyno tune? rehab2010
360kW at the wheels - with exhaust and tune - damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. That's HOT. I just saw a blue one at the Melbourne Motor Show - looks unreal. GMG and Ti used to look the best colours on 09/10's (IMO), but blue just bumped them one spot lower. PS: Would love to see some more dyno graph comparisons Martin - if you can spare an hour. Beer Baron
thanks for the reply martin. yeah I thought 290awkw was about the benchmark for an average stock R35. it's amazing to think how much performance they get out of 'just' 290awkw. When I first drove one hard, and then dyno'd it I was amazed to think just how fast they are with a relatively small peak power figure. just goes to show a cars performance is a lot more than a peak kw figure. R35s are a great example of that. especially given their weight. R35s are a great example of that. especially given their weight. Its all about utilising every kilowatt efficiently. The local stuff doesnt have a hope, but the likes of GTR, EVO X and even new STi do it quite nicely Still, nothing wrong with a - genuine - 290rwkw Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/365871-new-2011-r35-first-impressions/page/2/#findComment-5905661 Share on other sites
bcl
It’s not about the peak power unless you are racing at afast track. What makes the car so good is the relatively flat strong torque, quick gear changes and reasonably low gearing. It pulls very strong from2000rpm and does it so easy.
