dammit! i jsut posted this question and my computer stuffed up and now i have to write it all over again. Neways my question...since everyone did such a good job with helping me answer the other question for my assignment is what are the popular colours of gtr 33's and why do designers choose to make it a specific colour? (in anthropometric data, Japanese men were found to favour silver and black in automobiles...and given that nissan is a japanese company it would make sense that they targets the japanese male population)

well any other info would be good. oh and just quickly.,...coz im new here. can ppl please do a mini intro of themselves so i can suss out the hard core car fanatics :slap: hahah jokes. (need to suck up to them so they can help me with futher questions) btw...how cute are these lil smilies :kick:

I suppose if you are gay, pink might be appropriate. Or if you are an old style hippie, a flowered paisley design on your GTR with large ban the bomb signs painted on the doors.

There is and old Corolla getting around Melbourne covered in what looks like green outdoor carpet. How about white ceramic floor tiles ?

Actually - the majority of Japanese R33 GTRs (and other cars) are white - as it is seen to be a lucky colour...

Anyhoo: colours like white, silver and black are 'traditional' colours - and tend to be popular no matter what the current market trend is. These are factory R33 GTR colours:

AN0 Super Clear Red

BN6 Deep Marine Blue

KH3 Black

KL0 Spark Silver

KN6 Dark Grey

LP2 Midnight Purple

QM1 White

KP4 Sonic Silver

AR1 Super Clear Red 2

The deep marine blue is rare, as is purple (unless you live in Melbourne, where it seems, everyone has a f*cking purple one :P) I have never seen a red one though. Championship blue was only available on the LM special edition.

The purple was the R33 GTR 'signature' colour (gunmetal grey for 32, bayside blue for 34). And it sure is pretty - see my photo links for example :P

There is no easy answer as to why the above colours were chosen (some are quite complex - the red and purple are both pearl) - market trends, advertising arrangements, personal preference - who knows? Recall in the early 90's, all the euros (Benz, BMW, VW, Volvo, Opel etc) produced cars in a pastel yellow (think Taxi) which may have been cool then... but sure looks crappy now.

Colours and body style varies country by country.

What colours work in Japan on your average car will not work in Australia.

I prefer stark panda white on GT-R's - no idea why. Maybe black lower parks like the front lip, skirts. It just works.

With the colours available...

32 - white V-Spec

33 - champion blue LM

34 - champagne gold M-Spec

the purple r33 gt-r colour is probably the most outlandish colour that skylines come in. all cars should come in conservative colours for resale value.

on the flipside, it's okay for holdens to come in lime green, falcons to come in bright orange because they aren't worth anything after 2 years and the car will fall apart before the colour goes out of fashion. i'm such a shit stirrer :(

Yeah, I like white as well. It is a very practical colour for a whole lot of reasons, and there are probably more white vehicles around than any other colour. In most commercial vans you cannot buy anything else these days.

But that is the problem. It is so damned common. A lot of people hate white because it is so ordinary looking.

Ever noticed though there are very few of those giant 4WD monster tractor SUV things in white ?

My car is white Hehehe (chuckle).

white is good cos it's the easiest colour to match and is non-metallic so respraying isn't expensive.

Do you know how many different whites there are? None of them are just white, there is a tiny bit of blue, or black, or ochre in them to make it "warm" or "cool". It needs a damn good painter to match an unknown or a faded known formula white.

Anyway, My vote is in for silver, of all the colours (with the possible exception of pooh brown) it is the best at not looking dirty 5 min after a wash.

Downside is that it turns into a "stealth" colour on rainy days.

Matching should NEVER be a problem, that is why they have paint codes.

I agree white acrylic paint is easy to apply and it is visible at night and poor weather conditions. It also reflects a lot of infrared if you park out in the sun.

Metallic paint looks great, but it can fade and then be impossible to match. Metallic is good if you buy a new car and do not plan to keep it long.

A fifteen year old metallic car always parked outdoors, that has some resprayed panels can look horrible. Look at some of the really old Nissan Z cars to see how metallic paint can really deteriorate.

Ignoring all the dings and stone chips, an old car with acrylic paint can come up quite well with a cut and polish.

Apparrantly white is the hardest colour to maintain....because the materials used to produce white are very hard so if you need to cut and polish its a lot more dificult to work on. ....Just a little input from the "Big Smoke" :wavey:

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
