It's more of a safety issue.....a 1mm hole is a lot easier to block than a 2mm ect......cleaning it may not fix the problem as there may be more shit sitting around the engine that will block it at a latter stage(e.g. Aarons oil filter res)

I was told by my turbo builder to open up the hole as the Garrett BB set I have already has a restrictor in it.

BTW.

P.S. Chill pill guy's.....ffs the guy was only asking a question about why we were doing it......there has been a lot of what I would even rude response's lately......I know there are a lot of new guys coming on here now and maybe its the way they write responses but I am sure they did not wake up in the morning having the objective of pissing you off by the end of the day.

Thank you. While I have played with turbo cars for around 8 years, and over 20 years on all cars (started on Valiants when I was 16 and still have a VC I'm building), I understand each car has its little quirks, this is what Im trying to learn with the M35.

It's a long and tricky road.....this is one of the hardest cars I have played with and I have had some doisies.... its a little bit of an orphan but I am pretty sure from the results I have seen OS that we have some of the quickest NM35 with VQ25DET's in the World in Australia......and I know picking the correct info is hard on here but there are a couple of guys who really know there shit with these fat cow's.

Our objective is to save you money and time.....but ......and I HATE this phrase/sentence filler " At the end of the day..." it's yours car.

Yeah, Im not on here to step on anyones toes, I understand a few of you have done some good research and mods so Im keen to learn from that.

Hopefully i dont get my head bitten off asking this question,:domokun: but who in S.A would you recommend to do a HighFlow of the turbo that would know all the other bits that should be done ie the drilling of the restrictor etc. I was talking to brad he said he had been through a few turbo's what's with this is this a real common thing?

P.S. who sells these Emanage systems in the forum community and can i keep or even better my fuel eficiency?

Jasevr4 >> im sorta in your predicament want a bit more go, reliability/fuel efficiency without costing the world, let me know what you findout that might help me also.. im also in adelaide. P.M me for my number maybe we could share related info etc ?

I haven't been brave enough yet to even consider looking at my turbo. Is it a pita job to get at the front banjo- I've had this job on my list for a while but been concentrating on non-messy issues such as the electrics/stereo stuff!

Hi Cameron, I have only had one turbo. Hope ths one lasts. I got my turbo rebuilt by Bill at ATS (Adelaide Turbo Service). He pulls them down and sends the core to GCG for a rebuild then he puts it back together. Was about $1800. I know how to get the engine and gearbox out. I thought i was fast but the Victorians have got it out the quickest.

Did you fit that yourself Brad?

I had a quote from MTQ for $1800+, depending on how far you go.

I wouldn't start (and I'm not starting) with the turbo. I'm doing all the supporting bits first. Not all of them may be strictly necessary but they won't hurt. Things like intercooler, injectors, pump, ECU, exhaust, etc. But so far I've kind of been doing a mixed bag, because coming from an R31 Pintara I have enough power for now, so I've been concentrating on handling, sway bars, strut brace, brakes then coilovers.

Once I've got everything in place I'll do the exhaust then... assuming it doesn't blow up in the mean time... fingers crossed!

Going to try and drill out that banjo at the next service. Billy wants to come round and drill out our holes together

Will be dumping and replacing the oil with another tank of the Valvoline fully synth, think I've got one fill left. Is it worth a flush while I'm at it?

well maybe Aaron and Iain wake up with that thought towards each other....I think it's just sexual tension though! :P

Ah huh... sure... I think you forgot the unrequited love between you and Aaron :P

Yes I did the work myself it took 3.5 hrs to get the engine & gearbox out. It was 1800 just for turbo

Sinergy quoted a new turbo for $4500 fitted.

Alright. This is the smarts I like to hear. Anywhere that you guys can link me to more info on the oil restrictor? Dunc told me to do that too, so I'm guessing it should be at the top of the priority list.

iamhe77, ended up getting the black Aero kitted one from Wodonga.

Hey mate,

I think I found more about your old car...

check this site out: http://www.gtausmotive.com/gallery.html

There used to be a guy called GTAusmotive that frequents the Stagea section earlier this year. Last I heard he was looking for a spare turbo so he could get his car running as his was blown.

Not 100% sure if its the same car but I'm pretty confident...he was from Albury area...can't be too many M35's from Albury.

Anyway hope this helps...not sure where he sourced his turbo from...I was going to sell him mine but then he disappeared and never replied to my PMs...

Yep that's the one, I have a spare blown turbo and a standard one at the moment. Should make it easier come highflow time.

I made over 200awkw on a 2.5 inch dump/front pipe mate, with the stock turbo... :whistling:

What does the VQ25det put out stock on a dyno?

I've picked my tuner and I can't afford to get everything done at once so I'm going:

Full custom 3" TBE $1200 - $1500 fitted

Piggy back system with full tune $2500 ( Not sure what system it is but he won't touch emanage, it'll control the boost too - 19psi )

Hoping for a 200awkw. Sounds like as long as the turbo hole is drilled from 1mm to 2.5mm, 19psi should be fairly safe.

I'll also get him to do the throttle control wire cut mod ( If someone can provide a link to it so I can e-mail it to him I'd be appreciated.

Anything else I've missed that needs to be done?

Then after about a year it'll be:

Turbo Highflow or GTX 3701

Intercooler

injectors

fuel pump

I'll be happy with 250awkw (I think)

Whose making the custom TBE? Any reason you're not going for a tried and tested JDM product? Anticipate drone.

For $2.5k I'd probably want to know what/how they're going to tune it. Whose doing the work? Have they worked on a VQ25DET before?

Your air intake will likely be a point of restriction also, unsure if that will present itself as an issue at 200awkw or 250awkw

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 馃槀 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
