Just read the whole thread... Very nice engine build!

I love the attention to detail in building the engine, the only shame with the build is the short runner intake. Though it does look cool, you'll make much better power if you can add at least another 10 cm with a 90 deg vertical bend. A little bit of work in doing it, but it seems like you're the right man for the job!

My car started out life as a RB25DE and I very nearly made the decision to sub in a RB30 block (back in 2003) to up the HP keep it N/A. The RB is such a nice feeling (and sounding) engine in NA form I was keen to keep that alive, and also do something a little different. But alas, I went for the more cost effective option of dropping a RB25DET in.

Re: My comments on the short runners above

I'd buy 6 of something like this (or with thicker walls if you can find it):

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/150mm-x-150MM-50MM-OD-Universal-Alloy-90-Bend-Pipe-/290370839983?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439b7365af

They'd have an ID of 48mm, which is a pretty close match to the RB26 throttle body. Chop off the trumpets and weld them to the end of the bend, and you have some cool vertical velocity stacks! More power and a funkier look!

i am well aware of the shorter runners = more top end,

longer runners = more bottom end

unfortunatly there is the physical room to fit them, which isnt available

then there is the linkage holder, which there is a bar that was welded onto the trumpets to support that

www.jntperformance.com.au this is where i have bought the ramtubes from, they do have bends and longer ramtubes etc

Nothing wrong with putting a bend in the runners, 45-60deg will clear the clutch master and make their way towards the bonnet. Wouldn't be that hard at all to make....would be good to see some back to back testing if your keen. Pay for materials only ;)

Assembly time.

Kero washed everything, assembled, measured and calculated clearances, ring gaps etc, with flexi, feeler and dial gauges etc. Pulled apart re washed, then assembled using natural thiners and non-synthetic oils and assembly/ run in lubes, roughly dialing the cams in. All the usual stuff that should be done. I took my time and finally finished it over 2 weeks of making sure everything is 100% spot on and perfect

crank clearances all on mid size, piston to valve clearance 0.130" on intake 0.0180 on exhaust

Fitted the one off carbon fibre lower timing cover made. Had 3 dash 8 fittings welded onto the sump and fitted that, one for the drain kit, 2 for a catch can a bit further down the track. Also fitted the 90 amp alternator, engine mount brackets.

Pulled out the old rb30e, dropped the RB26/30DE in

Bought spitfire coil packs, silicon hose kit, fitted the ITB intake manifold, power steering

Sent it to Liverpool exhaust, they fitted equal length 3 into 2 into 1 extractors, hi flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with a resonator and a straight through muffler. Fitted the carbon fibre upper timing cover and coil pack cover when I got it back

Mick at Mick Motorsports wired up the Haltech Pro Sport 2000

I've since the tune, I had a little E10 in 98 pump problem, gave the head a quick reco but with very exact details everything like last build, while the head was off I started to make up my own ram tube manifold with gizmo thermal intake manifold gaskets

above is the most recent picture, not everything was put on as that was more of a dummy assemble

picked up an oil cooler and oil catch can to put on when it gets back

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
    • Sounds good, we will aim to be there! @The Bogan I'll give you a shout if you are heading up to campbelltown for the meet too.
    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
