There are only 3 people I see driving MX5's. Old men, old women and gay men.

The only people who dis the MX 5s seem to be people who are not sure about their own sexuality, have you seen Chubbs lap time for the creek lately, his is 1:56 what's yours ?

But Chubbs could tick two of those three hehe

He has never knocked back some man on man action and he is older than me hehe

One guy who drives it on the track, a thousand gay ones on the street.

well gay or not, the mx5 will make your 33 look sad through the twisties... lol...

If I was choosing a p plater car mx5 for sure, or sprinter/AE if on a budget, mx5 would pull the chicks and make the other guys jealous...

dc2 type r.. its N/A, farking quick! put a nice exhaust, toda headers, no cat.. rev it to 9k and sound like a f1 car and pops flames.. thats what ima do if i ever stop spending the $$ on the riceline

+1 for the dc2, my mate had one...and for a fwd car they are a heck of fun....although you have to rev the tits of them to get the powa

on that note with vtec you can go either way...cheaper and get a crx or em1 civic....or spend some more money and get the s2k.....

again in saying this once you have driven a turbroed car vtec just insnt the same.

my 2c, as much as i love skyline i dont think i would of bought a n/a one if i had the sh!ty p plate rules...

thanks guys really helpfull.

. we have a family friend who is a mechanic and has offered to help me build up the car as like a project with me n him. so therefor my decision will be either a supra or a r34 from the advice you guys have given.

really appreciate the imput.

how full efficient are the r34 na skylines?? and supras?? as running costs will be a factor in the extent of mods i can afford. and how reliable are the older supras 94 95 to the 2000 r34???

our family friend also owns a 69 le mans pontiac that puts out 1328 bhp on the dyno and 670 nm. so after hanging around with that sort of power im always gonna be going for the power over agility. not denying the fact that if i get a supra or skyline the first thing i will do is suspension brakes and tyres.

fuel depends on lots and lots of different things. For instance how you drive (hoon or grandma) and your location (traffic conditions/ congestion) and the overall condition of your engine.. (dirty o2 sensor, heavy breathing engine)

I could squeeze about 350-380 from full down to 1/4 but that was doing 80k's to and from work.. Jump on the m4 and driving around in traffic it dropped to about 300-350.. supras will be similar, maybe a little worse due to weight.

i live in ryde so it would be just heavy traffic around the ryde area to and from school / work and the occasional drive over to manly as thats were majority of family ishow much is it to fill the tank from 1/4 to full

yeah you would be looking at roughly 300kms down to 1/4 tank with lots of stop/start traffic.. I dont know the exact Litres I put in but from there or just under ranges from $60-70 depending on petrol prices going to full tank.

seriously - you are a p plater - learn to drive first.

do a course or 3

then modify a car.

yes I sound like an old man but f**k me in my job I see so many young people total lossing their cars - cars I question why did they have in the first place

get an NA supra or skyline and just learn

f**k mods - learn to drive - hours behind the wheel = best mod

yes I am drunk but I dont care.

I learnt the hard way - and this is why I say this

whats all this down to a 1/4 of a tank bollocks Aggroman? i heard a few mechanics back in the day say not to get it much lower than that but i have never been arsed to fill up until i could see the fuel light, am i really killing my engine by allowing some of the crap at the bottom of the fuel tank to circulate?

by my logic, never letting it get low would leave it all sitting there and make it worse.....not techy though so just guessing. Weirdly im getting the same kind of figures (360-400 tops) and im running it right down, this is in heavy city traffic though.

oh and good luck with the project OP, I love Supra's too but i gotta be biased and hope you get the Liner'!

am i really killing my engine by allowing some of the crap at the bottom of the fuel tank to circulate?

NO

thats why you have a fuel filter, which filters down to like 10 microns.

you will have more dust and shit get through your airfilter when driving around town then letting your tank get low.

Besides, the fuel pick up is at the lowest point of the tank....where all the crap sits, so full tank or empty tank, the pump is still picking up from the same point.

LOL

all this love for me - I have man crushes!! LOL

Sarge - dont be a hater.

Just abit of banter lol. To be honest the MX5 hard top was my favourite car back in the days(when I was younger, used it in NFS U and NFS U2). Loved it to bits, small, zippy and the hard top looked mint. What ruined it for me was being 6'1" and the general image of the car and the people who buy them. They are great cars, just driven by TOO many old people and TOO many gay looking men.

I dare anyone when they are on low fuel to put their hand in the fuel tank and touch the sides of the tank. Sounds gay but its slimy as f**k in there. Both my skylines were the same. Really feels like that damn thing needs to be cleaned lol.

I wouldn't be concerned so much about sucking up shit more so my concern would be something foreign entering the tank and causing fuel contamination... I sealed up my fuel filler thing because it was leaking. I used Permatex gasket stuff which is mean to be suitable for fuel etc. Found the shit running and just being shit from the petrol fumes. f**king waste of shit.

I dunno about you guys, but most of the MX5s I seem to pass on the freeway have aftermarket roll cages and race seats in them...

As to fuel tanks, don't be concerned at all, unless you switch to running E85.

I thought they came as an option as I have seen old people driving them with the cages lol.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
