Hi all, was looking into ECU choices. And I was hoping you guys might have some input for me. Was looking at getting an 'Apexi Power FC PRO', but thinking of some other brands like Wolf, Microtech and even Motec :pirate: etc. might be another option.

I have an RB26DETT running stock turbo's after rebuild 20,000 km's ago. :ermm: In which im in process of purchasing some Garrett 2860R -7 turbo's.:merli: I was going to install a new fuel system and run 800cc 'Sard' injectors. Only issue is that I obviously need a ECU to run this new setup.

Other thoughts I had on ECU choice include: :teehee:

To go with 'MAP' or keep the 'MAF'S'? <----- Keep going through AFM's, since boosting to 12psi. Can only clean them so many times (CO2 cleaner $$$). Think I really need to install that PVC catch can if im going to run more boost.

Do some Aftermarket ECU brands have better capabilities? For ACC, engine managment, eg, Electronics Sensors (in GTR) AC Control Sensors, Altesa System Sensors, Torque Sensors, ABS, etc?

Another option I was thinking, was to buy a mapped ECU (Mines ECU), and add piggy back the ECU, for other control's, and sensors (outputs on aftermarket ECU though).

I can justify paying around the $1000 on an ECU, Unless you can change my thoughts. Would like to hear some peoples ideas! Thanks in advance again guys. :miner:

For -7s you don't really need to upgrade injectors. You could get away with stock ones and a tiny rail pressure bump, also stock AFM's - meaning you only have a $900 cost of a PFC (new)

Good luck tracking down a PFC Pro, they don't come up very often and fetch closer to $1200-$1300 second hand.

Whatever your choice - talk to your tuner. If $1000 is your budget, then PFC is the only choice realistically.

And for the love of god stay away from "MINES" tuned ECU's and what not, they are just paperweights.

Choose a tuner, ask what ECU or ECUs they prefer, buy that ECU.

Cheapest option is Nistune: www.nistune.com

In the end the tune (and tuner) is more important than ECU selection.

Don't bother with a mapped ECU (especially Mine's), unless you want to destroy your engine, although we are quite happy to provide contact details of engine builders to rebuild your engine.

Thanks, good to know. Can hold off on injectors till I do CAM's. What fuel rail you recommend? As im peaking out stock one. with 12 PSI.

I'll check the 'Nistune' ones out. Been down that pathway once before, if a re-call. It cost me over $10k last time. Thanks.

Cams are a bad decision for turbos that small IMO.

Also fuel rail - stock. There is no way you are maxing a stock one, they are fine for over 400rwkw

Must of miss heard mechanic. Must of just be talking about the standard injectors. I already got fuel pressure then by the sound of it, so im back to injector size.:domokun: so what boost you thinking of running with standard injectors, I wanted like 17 PSI.

17PSI to 22PSI out of these turbo's.

Not a question of boost - question of airflow & power.

Stock injectors will do 300rwkw give/take. A minor rail pressure bump will get you to 320rwkw which is all -7s are going to make.

Don't really need to drop $900 on injectors.

:rofl2: What types of ECU do you other R32 GTR owner's use? Are you happy with you're choice of ECU? :rofl2:

I use a Power FC but its limitations are a little worrying. You may aswell use Nistune with that setup.

The Power FC has had its day anyway.

Honestly I would spend the mo st and get a haltech or vipec, something to consider with a power fc is that it costs about 900, but you want more power later on then you have to spend 600-900 getting new afm.....

For the same price straight up you can get a much better ecu that uses a decent map sensor, has 32x32 mapping, much better features and upgradable firmware

use the stock fuel rail, put on your turbos and save for an ecu that you and the tuner are comfortable with just remember that if you spend good money now you can save later haltech vipec etc run map so no need for afms later have better tuneablity and will make the car run smooth like stock :) spend it now then its will do you for the life of the cars upgrades if you plan to go futher with different turbos cams etc.

i personally am going to run the haltech platnium pro as the tuner knows it and its functions tick my boxes

Best of luck

He is Victorian - not having working MAF's is a EPA death sentence.

Fine for you interstate guys, but down here ECU choice isn't just driven by tuner. It's also driven by stealth and trying to be "as stock as possible".

for my 296kw @ wheels with -7 turbos, im running a nistune ecu, nismo 600cc injectors for piece of mind and mainly because i didnt want to push the stock ones near 100% duty cycle, and a Sard intank fuel pump running 14volts. plenty of headroom and safety in the juice department

running 19psi.

So the vipec fits into the factory case.... and you can retain the intake with airbox and afm. They are just not functional. Mr popo will never know the difference. My engine bay looks stock as with afm in the piping and plugged in, I run a power fc djetro (probably changing to the haltech soon but engine bay will still look the same with using map sensor).

Sorry dude but you don't know what you are talking about with regards to what happens down here and it's not as simple as you make it out.

The EPA will unplug the AFM, it's a 30sec check to tell them if you have an aftermarket ECU or not. They are not stupid down here unfortunately.

If the AFM unplug doesn't work, then they will look closer at things like injectors (colour of tops), and even open up the ECU case. I've had them open up the case on my ECU as the consult port wasn't working, which they can also plug into.

daaaaamn. all that effort they will go to down there scares me on so many levels.

meanwhile, the real criminals in the world are up to all sorts. Good work filth.

i couldnt survive with these rules....

obviously they cant see the fact that a car tuned correctly can still be passable for emissions gas testing.

and older cars without mods, may fail due to wear.

what a shame.....

    • I've searched fairly extensively among Japanese websites but found nothing really like those skirts in your photo. The closest I got was Origin Labo side skirts however they look more 'complete' in that they have a finishing piece or tab at the rear of the skirt so it blends into the bodywork, unlike the one in your pic. For that reason I'd say the skirts in your pic could be adapted from another car and they didn't include that tab piece, or those skirts aren't copied from an existing skirt but an original design. Sorry I can't help out in regard to ID'ing/sourcing them
    • Wonder if JB Weld sponsored the event lol
    • There's a big difference between a car built with millions of dollars in R&D, and someone like yourself taking a normal sporty road car, and making it 5 times more powerful. At the same time, get a modern sports car, and you can turn them up towards the 1000hp mark a lot easier too. Also, give that Lambo another 20 odd runs, and chances are it too may break something.
    • There isn’t really a cheap upgrade here. If someone made a decent, bolt in 6 speed that holds some grunt, it would do very well. The 5 speeds suck. You can put a - OSG 5 speed gear set into it. Ratios are tall so it zaps the “zing” out of it. Had one, busted it. - PPG 5 speed gear set synchro or dog’s. Ratios are even taller. - An overpriced Getrag. Nice to drive, expensive to source now. - A sequential of some sort. Expensive, very expensive. How many times do you pop a 5 speed before you throw the toys out of the cot?
    • Yes, fair call. I don't have any special love for super/hyper cars but it was impressive to watch the Lambo line up against successive skylines without any problem at all.
