Williams to run aggressive new rear wing design in practice for Canadian GP

Pastor Maldonado will evaluate an aggressive new rear wing design for Williams during free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The team has admitted that the performance of its DRS has held it back at times this year, particularly in qualifying.

Maldonado added that the new design, which has a more curved profile than its predecessor, is part of a raft of updates for this weekend.

"In Barcelona it was OK," Maldonado told reporters about the performance of the DRS. "We have a new rear wing here, and I hope it will be better for the DRS but also for all the weekend.

"It's all to discover. We need to test tomorrow and analyse many things on the car. We have a completely new aero package, so let's see."

At the Chinese Grand Prix earlier this season, Maldonado's team-mate Bruno Senna said that he felt the team could make big gains with an improved DRS.

"If you can get three tenths from the DRS effect, which is not impossible, then you are already jumping three or four positions," said Senna.

"We know all the other teams have a bigger effect [from DRS], so on tracks with long straights it is hard."

Dany Bahar dismissed from Group Lotus role

Dany Bahar has been dismissed from his role as CEO of Group Lotus with immediate effect, the Malaysian-owned sportscar manufacturer announced on Thursday.

Just a fortnight after it was revealed that Bahar was being suspended following a complaint about his conduct, Group Lotus said that his employment contract had been terminated.

In a statement issued by Group Lotus, it said: "The decision was made by the Board of Group Lotus plc following the results of an investigation into a complaint made against him by the company's penultimate holding company, DRB-HICOM Berhad."

Bahar was the man who spearheaded the idea of rebranding the Renault team as Lotus for this season. That plan put him in conflict with the ambitions of current Caterham team principal Tony Fernandes - who embarked on reviving the Lotus name before Bahar joined Group Lotus at the end of 2009.

Group Lotus said that Aslam Farikullah would be its new Chief Operating Officer.

Group Lotus' owners DRB-Hicom insist that they remain fully focused on securing a bright future for Group Lotus, despite speculation that it was open to selling the sportscar company.

Dato' Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil, Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM Berhad said: "I would like to assure you that we remain committed to ensure the ongoing and future business operations of the Lotus Group as we take the Lotus Group to the next level to remain relevant in the global automotive industry.

"I look forward to bringing mutual benefits to not only DRB-HICOM and PROTON Holdings Berhad but also the Lotus Group and its employees as well as contribute to the growth of the British automotive industry."

Haha where do you find these Formula 1 memes?

http://forums.autosp...26&st=0&start=0

10 pages of them here, some funny, some very funny but many are just begrudged fans trying to discredit drivers they dont support, like every other thread on autosports.

what an ingrate

teams could have formally protested the result and he would have gotten nothing

they didnt, he and his team were given a reprieve and he's still not happy

They weren't 'given a reprieve'. At the time of the race it was passed as legal during its inspections, if it wasn't then they would have had to modify it pre race, they passed it so it was legal full stop. If the rules are interpreted differently after the fact you can't penalize Red Bull for that. It's the FIA's fault not Red Bulls.

Now that the FIA have change their minds Red Bull are changing their design, what more can they do than that?

The whole thing is bullsh!t anyway. Other teams (eg a certain nominally Italian team with red livery have a similar hole but it is not "enclosed" The cut in the floor to make it open you cant even fit a single sheet of paper through.

lots of things have been deemed legal only to be somehow outlawed for no particular reason

look at renaults mass damper system. Team Spaghetti protested and while the FIA deliberated the outcome renault were forced to drop the system in fear of a retrospective penalty. Surely the same thing would have happened here

As much as I am willing to slate Ferrari for their massively dodgy actions down the years I dont think you can really blame them for this non story. Really the RedBull was legal - there was some vagary in the rule and it has been cleared up. Webber is, reasonably, annoyed by the sniping over stuff all after what was a really good drive.

Anyway Canada will be interesting (I hope). Wonder which of the MB powered cars wins.

no, in this instance team fuzz have kept their nose clean

Mass damper-gate was just an example of team protests having championship changing consequences

    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
    • If there's oil in with the clutch, I hope it finds its way out even if that hole has a cover/grommet 😛 I don't want oil near my cars clutch! 😛 Interested to hear the answer about covering it, I'm assuming a bung for a gearbox from another car that has a grommet to suit.
