Hi was hoping for some help from people in the know yucky.gif

Lately when i give my GTR a squirt the engine makes a slight clattering noise and the engine light flashes on and off very quickly .

The noise occurs only at mid to high rev range about 5500 rpm to 7500 rpm

In the past before the issue with the noise , it did blow a fair amount of black smoke from time to time requiring a re-tune .

Could it be valve bounce ? I need some help !

My cars staying in the garage until i find out a bit more !

Thanks Guys

Are you running a PowerFC? If so it is detecting pinging and flashing the light as a warning.

If you haven't moved the CAS, changed the boost or anything else it is most likely to be a dieing fuel pump, but get a mechanic to check it out.

BTW no real danger running around at low revs/boost/load. Just don't give it some, pinging can literally kill a turbo motor in seconds.

Yeah its running Power FC , would 91 RON unleaded cause pinging , my misses might have put 91 in by mistake . pinch.gif

Top up with some 98 then put a bottle of octane booster in it that should help, if it gets worse it may be a bigger problem

Ouch... That is it. Due to a number of reasons which I won't go into here my R34 had some 91 RON fuel put into it (also runs a PowerFC with no knock protection). Results - dead engine haha. The one upside is I get to rebuild it better, but that has almost been 2 years in making so far...

Drive it really carefully, whilst continually topping it up with 98 RON fuel till its filled with it.

I wouldn't even drive the car. Get a siphon and pump that stuff out. 91? Lucky she didn't put E10... 3 successive blinks of the engine check light is a sign of detonation and it must be going hard out. Its not only about driving slow now, its also about not putting much load on the motor. If you tried to climb a hill with that fuel you will find it detonates.

yup I agree siphon it out and put it in another car.

Pics would help.....

She knows what goes in it 98 , but it was a genuine mistake just from the habit of using 91 in her own car . kiss.gifWomen arent perfect like us men wacko.gif. lol

Depending on your fuel reg setup, you could unhook the return and put that into a bucket/jerry can, then start the car and let it idle until it stalls. Hook the reg back up and put in 98 - easy as. Did it on my GTR when making the swap to E85 and it didnt take long at all. On a separate occasion did the same thing but used the ECU to turn fuel pumps on and didnt start the engine.

Putting a tube down the fuel filler to syphon the tank is damn hard with a GTR fuel neck and you wont get as much as the fuel pump will anyway. Food for thought :)

    • Absolutely could be. I collected data logs from when the O2 sensor was still out and also after I had replaced it so will try to compare them. Pretty confident that the affect is lowered with the new sensor, will check logs at the same RPMs/conditions.
    • Hey guys Long time lurker, I daily a nm35 stagea 250t rs four and I've had it for almost 2 years (very reliable 👌). • thanks for the advice on the box... i was thinking the 6 speed was better for cruising on the highway but on closer inspection and comparison the Rb 5 speed box was not too different...  So the choice is going to be the RB25 box... if I can save up and find one at the right price
    • Thanks Matt, yes that's what i am aiming for. Just going to apply the right voltage and grounds to the dash connector. Hence my search for these pins... any chance you know if these pins are in the same spot as the ones on the S15 Dash connector? as mentioned above on page 8?
    • Yes, unfortunately that's the one. Signal was noisy to begin with; after driving once and looking back at the logs I saw pressure constantly swinging between 0-200psi, or staying at 0 randomly for a few seconds. There's a lot of good sensors that share the same look and feel, so don't presume they're all bad. I bought mine for 20$ off Amazon and I should have read the reviews prior, as it's clear they're junk.  I purchased a lowdollerr motorsports sensor.
