Hey,

My mate finally got the modification bug and told me he wants to get 400Rwhp from his R34 Gtt.

Its pretty standard atm, with just a cat back fitted.

we have a 3' dump/front, turbo smart dual port BOV, Intercooler kit and pod filter to fit up.

I have been speaking with HP-in-a-box and they do a GTX3076 with Nissan rear housing, internal gate, spacer, braided lines for around 2.5k.

Obviously we will be getting the other supporting mods (z32 afm/740cc/nismo fpr/ally rad/bosh Fpump/clutch) but im just looking for assistance selecting the cams, head gasket and head studs.

Also, to go power fc or Nistune - im leaning toward Nistune at this point in time.

Looking forward to any advice you can offer, thanks guys!

Got a feeling you'll get quite a few responses saying you won't 'need' the Nismo FPR, the Radiator, the head gasket, cams, or BOV for 400 rwhp, and that Nistune is the simple, easy and (visually) legal ECU choice if you're in VIC. Also saves some dollars.

Will he be happy with 399rwhp or 401rwhp? Can he tell the difference of 5hp tolerance? Specific power goals always amuse me...

No point doing cams and head gasket, you can get that power without cams and I wouldn't bother doing a half job of opening the engine. Just run the 400rwhp until she pops, if she does, and then build up a forged engine.

Also those "Nissan" rear housings by HP in a box suck... plenty of stories on here where people have struggled to make power. Save money by not buying the useless stuff (FPR, cams, head gasket) and go external gate

When I was modding my car, I had 280 in my head as a target. Until I see a dyno give me 280 or more, I'm not stopping. You can't shoot blind. Have a target, aim and shoot.

You have ALOT of unnecessary parts there which are just a waste of time and money. Head gasket? Seriously you're going to pull the motor apart, resurface the head and block, get new studs and put it all back together?

A good bolt on kit will do nicely. You can tell your mate to get a gt3540, that will get him over 400rwhp but how long it takes to hit that power is a different matter. Find your self a nice HKS kit(rare as f**k), or just get a good high flow for about 350rwhp and be done with it.

What's the point though? Would you actually stop at 278 or completely change a system when you could dyno it elsewhere and get 280. I just don't understand the exact power figures people chase - are you trying to be a dyno queen? Because 280 isn't going to be winning any competitions. I think people just hear about other people having this much power in their cars on the forums and decide it sounds good without no actual knowledge of how fast it will actually be, or if it's even appropriate for their setup. More realistically, you're better off aiming for a specific lap time or quarter mile time and modify until you reach your useful target...jus sayin...

400rwph is so 2009, 0-100kph in 4.5 secs is the new 300kw

why doesnt your mate come and research... why is it always my mate wants this but Im asking... oh wait is it school holidays again????

I like that his mate wants to go from "we have a 3' dump/front, turbo smart dual port BOV, Intercooler kit and pod filter to fit up." ( so basically about 160rwkw) to 300rwkw

and what is wrong with that?? rolleyes.gif

to get to 300rwkw (400hp ~ish) give or take 20kw all you need is a nistune after installing bigger injectors, bigger turbo, FMIC, 3in+ exhaust and boost T..

The other stuff is more to make it more reliable or if the stock parts are stuffed.

The main thing that will make the power goal is going to be turbo. A GTX3076 will make 300rwkw but so can a GTX3071.. HKS turbo mentione above might not make 300 but it sure will kick the other 2 in acceleration on the street. Hi-Flows also might not make 300kw but they make a nice quick 250ish kw which will be fast on the street.

If your mate really wants to crack 300kw then i would not get FPR, head gasket, head bolts and Bov and get a 6boost mani+external gate with a GTX3076

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
