Should be fine. When measured at 30m in the open I'd be VERY surprised if it fails.

Also, the measuring gear is at the front gate and we are at the back of the property (so 300-350m away).

I wouldn't be.

Road noise tests are done at partial throttle holding a constant RPM. Full throttle = f**k loads louder.

When some cars back off they can spike 10 - 15 DBA...

The test of 95DBA at 30Metres that CAMS uses, is at full noise while the car is being driven on the circuit, and can be take at any point on the track, including when the car backfires.

It will be the same at Sutton, the vehicle must ALWAYS be under 95DBA from 30 metres away via EPA stipulation. Not just when it is being slightly free revved in the car park.

Some valid points there Matt but really it's a nonissue. Thanks though.

CAMS are not involved here, and Sutton has outlined to me their guidelines on noise which are the same as when I ran this event years ago.

If you'd like to continue, PM me, otherwise please don't post like that as it makes the noise issue sound like a big issue which will deter entrants who haven't been to this sort of thing before when realistically it won't be a drama.

Edit: It should also be said that previously SAUNSW has run at this venue more than once and not had any issues with noise - even allowing straight pipes for exhausts and externally vented wastegates doing burnouts on the skidpan. One time there was a complaint from the old bloke down the valley who has nothing better to do but the Australian Rally Championship cars running around with their anti lag/launch control was the reason for that. Inspectors came, I explained the ARC cars are loud, they watched for about 15 minutes then left and didn't care.

I'll come to help :) if you need help.

Yep i highly doubt my car will be ready by then but if you need help ill be in on that too

Yes help is definitely needed at this place, all help will be greatly appreciated!!

So thanks guys, see you there :)

so if i have an external gate and pass the noise test is there an issue???

As Dave said, as long as the exhaust gasses all go through the exhaust and not out a screamer that's the main thing

I wasn't making an issue of this, I was clearly pointing out that people need to be aware of how road noise tests are conducted are VERY different to EPA (At Events like this) and Race Track noise levels. Maybe we should stop educating people because facts might scare them... What do you think?

As you had noted, the DBA meter is a fair distance from the gate, so it should be a non issue.

I think I'll enter this one, just need some dyno time before hand to suss out a few things and if I get the ok I'm in.

Let's hope my only problem is a dying fuel pump......easy fix

Oooooooo, my first texi!!! Look like a cool track

Hey Stevo,

Keen to help out, whats involved? Do we just rock up as spectators and go from there? It'll be my first event as a member of NSW SAU :woot: but 99% sure it'll just be as a spectator...

Will be good to put faces to a few names regularly seen on SAU!!

Yeah basically just show up about 830am and say Hi, after drivers briefing I'll call the officials to stand to one side to make sure we have enough to start the day, then you choose a corner you like the view from (if you like to take pictures, thats cool bring the camera) and we set you up with a seat, some shade, few drinks and food etc plus a radio. In front of your spot will be a chicane made up of orange cones which cars have to drive through (just like the ones on the video). If someone doesnt drive through it at all, or knocks a cone down just say on the radio "car number XX hit 2 cones" or "car number XX totally missed gate" and we apply a time penalty to that cars overall course time. If a cone is knocked down, it's great if you can stand it back up before the next car comes through to save a course car having to do it (as it takes the course car longer because it has to come from the start whereas you're sitting right there). Only one car on the course at a time so just as I will say it to the officials on the day i'll say it now, dont be afraid of picking up the cone if one gets knocked down, if you radio in "cone knocked down" you can also say "and im picking it up" - we wont let the next car go until we hear "cone fixed" or something similar to let us know you're off the track.

As many cold drinks and hot food as you'd like will be brought out at regular intervals, also if any officials want to swap corners thats easily done too (for example, you can do corner 1 first, then corner 4, then corner 7 or whatever one you like the view from) - I wouldnt expect someone to sit in the same spot all day (of course if you prefer that, thats perfectly cool), so I'd expect the officials do say 2 hours at one corner, then 2 at another etc.

It doesnt matter even if you only want to do it for the morning and not the afternoon, all help is appreciated and it's so simple to do - plus you get WAY better viewing than any normal spectator will ever get at this place

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
