Hi, I've just been offered an R33 Turbo that's been machined on the front inlet part and then the rear cast part has also been opened up a little too... Can get it for $700 as a complete kit with all new blue silicon hoses. Just wondering if that is a good price, the bloke recons to machine a turbo in that way it would cost upwards of a grand. It will be going on my R34 Neo, would this be a good upgrade for the price?

Also does anyone have any idea what i'd then get for my standard R34 neo turbo?

Don't do it. Unless you can know what wheels etc have been put into it, it's not worth a single dollar. Also, the R33 rear housing is smaller than the R34 rear, so even though it has been highflowed, you would be better off sending your R34 turbo to Hypergear and getting it flowed for not a lot more than the $700 they want for this other turbo.

I was talking to a guy from GCG Turbo's yesterday at Jamboree about high flowing my r34 turbo and he said after its machined and replaced the compressor etc. ect. it'll cost upward of $2000+.

Don't know how true it is but its something to think about...

I recon ill be going the $900 option... Don't need anything too Fancey just a little better than stock for now and kinda got excited at the price and look of the high flow... It was coming from my bro on law whose a.pretty good salesman haha...

I paid $1800 for GCG to hifghflow a GTST turbo about 3 or 4 years ago - wouldn't do it again - the Hypergear seem better value for less money or at about the same money or a little more you can get some good new turbos (although you may need new lines etc).

I've got a hypergear high flowed r34 turbo and once I get my ecu issues sorted, I will hopefully be putting it in. The dyno graph in the hypergear thread show it on an r34 putting out 260rwkw on 17-18psi bleeding off to like 14ish psi up top.Ill be hoping for about 240kw or so on my r33.

high flowed turbo do make noticeably more power on stock ECU, you can run about 10psi of boost without upsetting the factory tune. How ever it doesn't make the full potential unless you have aftermarket ECU, injectors and the rest of supporting mods. The best is to get the turbo installed, then have fuel mods done at your tuners with car tuned on nistune chip. I've been told stock afm support up to 250rwkws, so Z32 AFM might not be necessary for the high flowed turbo.

No point wihout the Nistune. Depending on the turbo you will also need a Z32 afm and bigger injectors (and you should replace your fuel pump with a new and better one).

Since you will also need (if yours is stock now) a FMIC and at least 75 -80mm turbo back exhaust. If you're on a budget do these first with the Nistune and then get the turbo, afm and injectors and retune.

Ask about the specifics, receipts etc. I bet it has a journal bearing core - nothing wrong with it though. If you can prove it really is a high flow, then offer him around 650.

Its definitely been “hi flowed”, but as for specifics we don't know... He bought an economical right off and it was on the engine in that car. Thats all we know. The seller is my bro in law so i know he's trustworthy and not rorting me.

yeah , its so easy to carried away buying a turbo..you start of looking at a budget hiflow, then realize for an extra few hundred you can get more power..

But in reality its not that easy..cause there is always extras needed to make that power...

looking back at my own mess, a budget hilfow and an ecu with a good tune is where I should of stopped..you can keep stock injectors and afm and still make a comfortable and zippy 220kw without worrying about destroying your driveline every time you sink the boot in..Plus it will still look stock should the popop start poking there noses in your business

2500$ will get you a 220kw quick and easy to maintain car

5000$ will get you a 280kw weapon and alot of headaches

Its just so easy to get carried away upspecing everything....

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
