Hi fellow Stag owners,

That time has come when I need to put new tyres on the Stag. It's an M35 Axis with the factory 18" Axis wheels.

Wish to get an idea of what tyres people have been using that offer tremendous grip in dry and in the wet.

Nitto Invo. Transformed my car, & I was running Toyo Proxes4 before.

Prices on the Invo's are pretty competitive too. They're definitely trying to break into the market in Australia

I don't drive that many kms (<3000 since gettng them last year) so can't really say how they are going in that department (still look like new atm). I don't expect to get amazing mileage out of them, but as it stands now I'd buy another set even if they wear out in 20,000km. They really have impressed me that much.

I searched for the Hankook Ventus RS3 mentioned above, & they look pretty nice too. Not sure another tyre would swing my vote unless they turned out to be exceptional value.

I was looking at the Hankooks - my tyre guy was highly recommending them, but couldn't guarantee wear. Only issue is I want a 245/45R18, and the closes Hankook do is a 245/40R18.

Where did you get the Nittos from?

I need new tyres ASAP, I just over research things like that before making a decision. But after the track day Monday I want something fairly sticky.

What is the wear rate indicated on the hankooks? The Invo's are 260, but these numbers are only a comparison between tyres from the same manufacturer, not necessarily accurate between brands.

I wouldn't run the smaller size, unless they went on some spare rims for track days. Should accelerate 0.47% faster with those :thumbsup: . (fabricated statistic)

Taleb tyres in Sydney had a listing on Ebay; $189e & it cost me an extra $15e for delivery. Then I had them fitted, so ended up being a bit more than if I lived in a capital city. I think they buy a container load of various sizes. Bit of a lottery as to how many of our size will be available & for how long.

Like you, I umm & ahhed, then researched some more. Didn't take long to determine I'd made the right decision. Am able to take a series of my favourite corners 18 - 20km/h faster. Nearly rips my face off, lol. Then, mid corner, still has enough in reserve to make changes, ie turn a bit tighter - which is hard to judge when your ear is partially covering an eye. (fabricated analogy)

Makes me wonder what some of those $500 - $1000+ semi slick tyres would feel like. Also makes me badly want a better seat. The centre console & door are integral parts of my current setup.

Ryan on my 180sx I've used federal 595 SS up front and wasn't impressed at all for a performance/track type tyre. I then went with kumho ku31 and a heeeap better. I also run these in a 245/45-18 on the m35 but a little noisy due to the Clayton that wheel aligned it with way too much toe and shagged the inside of ALL tyres, thus making them noisy till the day they die :( not normally a noisy tyre. Awesome tyres with a 320 treadware.

Jase also used them and was very happy.

Maybe look at a set of these if your not decided yet.

I'll make some calls and see how I go.

I don't think I'd use the KU36 on the street with a heavy car like the m35. The tread ware rating is pretty low so you won't get long out of them. Although the grip would be NICE!

Lol yeah I got that impression from some of the guys running them at the track day Monday on a much lighter car.

Not sure on the treadwear of the KU36, but just found the AD-08s are 180! Last about 5 minutes!

I'm running Mastercraft Avenger Touring LSR tyres in 245/45/18 96V. They are good for 60k if rotated at 5k which I've been doing. They are a harder compound, 520 I think, but with the sway bar upgrades on my car it still handles very well up/down the GWH in the mountains. Also good on the Bells Line too. I got my for about $365 each at Springwood (NSW) tyre service. KU36's are 220 treadwear from memory.

Pretty sure they are 180 or 150. I'm leaning towards 180 from memory.

But looking on the kumho site they don't come in a 245/45-18 as not really a performance car sizing, only a 245/40-18.

520 is an unbelievably hard tyre mate.

Guys, have you checked out CostCo? I dunno if there's one in SA or Brissie, but if you're in Sydney or Melbourne (or Canberra), it might be worth an enquiry and membership. It'll cost you ~$60 for membership, so just join up, drop your car off for the tyres and do some shopping while you wait. You'll easily recover the cost of your membership.

I'm seriously considering getting my next set from there, as they sell Michelin Pilot Sport 3s, Continental CSC3s, Bridgestone Adrenalins (and probably Potenzas too), and a whole bunch of other stuff there too. It's been about 3 months since I checked, but most of those brands were under $300 a corner for around 245s in an 18" diameter.

Oh, on that note, I probably wouldn't get a wheel alignment from there - I doubt they'd do a bad job with it, but I'd just prefer to go somewhere I trust...

Best thing I ever did. Tyres in Aust that would be upwards of 400 each, I got for 205. A bit over 1000 when shipping was included and here in 5 days.

Really only good for hard to get / super expensive tyres. I wouldn't be bothered for normal style sizes. Just my 2c

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.

I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.

Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
