Guys,

About to build another track car and want to go down a different route to my current R32.

This one will be a rear wheel drive GTT with an RB26 in it.

I'm looking for a single turbo/manifold combo that will net around 370kws.

Motor will be kept pretty simple with a built bottom end, drop in poncams, very little headwork, running on E85.

Looking for 20psi by say 4000rpm.

Give me your thoughts please.

Just so something similar to mine (See below) with a built engine and decent boost it should be fine and response will be exactly what your after..... BUT depends what you want to spend

If I were building exactly the same thing, going by the things I've seen out and about these days - I'd go for a single entry FP GT3076R HTA with .82a/r hot side on a 6boost manifold.

There should be no surprises, its based on the existing Garrett GT30 platform which is long proven to be reliable, and has a better matched compressor on it that the "normal" out going 56 trim GT3076R (let alone the GTX3076R) while also providing a higher flow rate. The combination has been around for a number of years now, proven to "make the numbers", and there is no debate that they actually spool and respond quicker than the normal GT3076R (which would already be a reasonable option to consider). Realistically you'd be looking at more power than GT3076R while being closer in spool and transient response to the smaller GT3071R.

The FP turbos do look like an awesome option!!!

Why the 370rwkw target?

370kw + 1150kg or thereabouts will net a reasonably quick track car that shouldn't break too many things by being overpowered/stressed.

Not only that but this car will be rwd so I want good linear power that doesn't create too many drivability/traction issues.

I've learnt the hard way that the more you push the power the more you have to upgrade/fix, I don't want to have to do that with this car.

Anyone have a cheap alternative to the FP ??

How much are you willing to compromise cheap vs performance?

There are cheaper turbos than the HTA which may perform in a similar territory, though they rely on twin scroll partly to boost natural torque and exhaust efficiency to get the "wider" performance - ie, something like a Holset HX35.

Alternatively, there is the Kando Dynamics T67 turbo SimonR32 uses on his R32 which will also make the power, but is likely to introduce more lag (though to be fair, an RB26 in a car weighing 1150kg will probably cover that up) than the other options I mentioned and probably have a "snappier" nature, 20psi @ 4000rpm possible but I wouldn't want to guarantee it.

Any of the options mentioned will get you in the territory of 370kw and 20psi by 4000rpm, GT3582R being most likely to fall short of your response requirements but more than capable of the power, GT3076R working hardest to reach the target power but one of the most responsive.

Precision turbo. Im going to try a 6262 and hoping to have a fair amount of response. Otherwise a slightly smaller size may be best

:O PT6262 would be epic lols on a RB26 track car on E85, though not so sure its what he's looking at. Probably 4500+rpm for full boost, but potential for >450kw would be amusing in an 1150kg RWD track car hahahah

I did the opposite in the first post, i originally saw GTT but there was no RB26..... So my posts are useless (As usual) :woot:

If you're running E85, I'd run no less than 10:1 compression pistons and go with a BorgWarner EFR 8374 .92.

I've been down the EFR road, and for some strange reason,........I think I'll try a different road this time...... :wacko:

I was budgeting (because this is a budget build, spent all my money on my bloody R32) on about $2000 for Turbo and Manifold if possible.

you arent going to get a garrett turbo and a manifold for 2k, 2.5-3k will get you a 6boost/ETM manifold and a gt35 but the GT30's are more expensive than the GT35's, unless you can get someone elses setup 2nd hand.

a racecar on a budget is going to break things, cheap stainless manifolds expect them to warp and crack, cheap nasty turbos, expect them to be extra laggy and or blow up.

GT3076 on E85 has been proven to around 330-340rwkw on E85 or the HTA variant for something better again

Do most people buy their GT3582s from GCG? There are so many GT35Rs out there - hard to know where to buy the best option from!

I run a standard RB25 with the Kinugawa T67-25g 10cm that make 360rwkw and does regular track work and it fits all your criteria. 20psi well before 4000rpm, near enough to the power you're asking and it's cheap $750 delivered plus a $1200 decent manifold.

Your other options are a GT3076R which will be a tiny bit better spool and a tiny bit less top end for an extra $1000 or maybe a bastardised version of one for similar price.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
