sorry, my mistake.. the F6 Typhoon is the 6cylinder turbo.. and is 270kw. The 290kw is V8.

see here for their brochure site: http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=2.437#

Least they are continuing the turbo, and it is not just a "one model" thing for Ford

Where: Victoria Rd, Top Ryde NSW

When: Tonight, 10.40pm

Result: XR6T ute got verrry FPV* whan his ass was whupped. by a good two carlengths (when i could safely check the mirror). Then decided to ride right alongside me for the next 3k's, throttling on the wastegate/BOV.

I love these turbo Falcs. It's been a long time coming for the local industry & who wouldn't want that sort of massive torque ? But I didn't like the FPV attitude of this individual. Build a bridge man !!

* Fu(king Pissed Vehemently - the desire to seek an alternative outcome to an already proven result, stemming from a basic inability to accept the truth: whupped by a 10 year old rice burner costing 1/2 the price & turning twice the necks

This was a valuable lesson for me. Hope there's something in it for you

Don't forget that it is difficult to extract power from the XR6T with the stock electronics due to the XR6T's torque-limiting code. From all accounts that I've heard, you can get an XR6T making some decent power, but over a fairly short period of time, the ECU will figure out that you're making more power and will gradually retune the car until it falls within factory power specs again. Therefore modding an XR6T to go much better than factory is a more expensive and painful exercise than modding a Skyline, where the ECU doesn't care/know how much power the car makes, as long as it's getting fuel and spark it's happy.

This in itself could mean that there'll be a heap of XR6T's running within half a second of stock, then a big gap, then the guys who've modified enough to warrant spending the extra on standalone management (fly by wire throttle don't forget, which limits options). Things like the Nizpro 'boost box' may blur the lines a little depending on price (I have NFI what they're worth), but either way, with that many cubes and forced induction, making good power isn't rocket science.

I say bring it on :)

XR6T is a nice family-come-sports car, but its weight will always hinder it. I don't think it helps that Ford/Holden tend to be more obsessed with power outputs than putting together a complete package (like, you know, one that can go round corners :) ).

But that seems to be the latest fad: power outputs and 1/4 times seem to be king -- I think track times are far more interesting.

LW.

Yeah that's a fair call, bout the rematch. This was pretty dangerous territory, (renowned for cops). In retrospect I wouldn't have run him had I been thinking with my brain instead of balls. :) I wouldn't run him again through gladesville

that's asking for bigass trouble.

This guy had a vent-to-air BOV, ricey EL pillar mount gauge, big wheels and the attitude to match. It made a lot of noise but obviously went no faster.

No respect from me.

Anyone seen that djr falcon in the latest unique cars - what a pile of snot! They couldn't extract much more than 320 flywheel kw's because of that ford computer hitting rev limiter at just 6,000 rpm. How can they justify $90,000+ with a brake upgrade, ugly leather interior and that fake bonnet scoop?

Im glad to see that everyone on this forum seems a little more grown up towards this particular topic than our friends over at the ford forum.

I agree the XR6t is a fantastic car and one of the better decisions by ford australia, lets hope we see more australian turbo cars. Turbo commodores, turbo awd magnas, etc.

Its just a shame that some drivers of it can't accept that there are other manufacturers of quality turbo cars out there and that it has nothing to do with stickers or bodykits or whatever else some owners choose to put on their cars.

That said I have now decided that I would not buy a ford of any kind any time in the future unless by some strange financial foible Nissan gets bought out by them.

I think a marjority of us (SAU) have a passion for performance cars in general, doesn't matter if it's a Mini Moke, or a full blown 1957 Chev. Respect given when respect deserved :)

I think the XR6t is a great car and it's about time an Australian car maker has finally cottened on to the fact you don't need big cubes to make good power.

The 1700 odd kg's is a bit of a let down, but you have to have a look at all the luxo features it has, that may explain for the extra weight etc..

Saying that, I was a little shocked when I read of a 300rwkw version going around that only could manage a 13.0 1/4 mile.. :D Still would be fun to drive :)

It's RESTECP dammit!! :D

Agreed, it's a step in the right direction. Lol, only 4 litres should do it :) But they'd need the extra cubes for as long as their kerb weight stays on the porky side of 1700kg.

If anyone has ever looked really hard at a Skyline, you'll notice that there are weight-saving bits all over the place. Suspension parts, the way the metal overlaps and is joined in places, plastic or alloy instead of steel, etc etc. Ford Australia probably can't afford to put that much development into their local cars (from what I hear they were damn lucky to be approved by Ford HQ to develop the turbo motor), so they overengineer - when was the last time you heard of a Falcon breaking anything except a gearbox or diff? This makes them pretty tough, and they need to be to cope with outback conditions which would shake most imported cars apart, but also very heavy. Being a compromise makes them a less focussed car than the Skyline - if Ford decided to build an XR6T from the ground up as a sports car, rather than being forced to take the base cars from the same assembly line that the fleet and family cars come from, it'd be a friggen weapon!! I'd buy one.

Hehe certainly would be! Reminds me of a mate with a tunnel rammed nitrous 383ci LX Torana... he ran 11.4 @ 147mph. Pathetic for the power it was putting out (look at the mph), but the ET doesn't tell the whole story! He chopped a Ferrari F50 in it too, lmao
I wouldn't mind shoe-horning the Typhoon's 270kW/550Nm motor into a 2dr shell that weighs around 1300kg, paint it black like Mad Max's and call it the BA Interceptor....

Mmmm, smoke-alicious :headspin: :burnout: :bananaman

:P

Bring on the BA interceptor ;) , on that point, comparison of the two cars seems a little odd being that they are targeted at two different markets. BUT you make a BA interceptor blacked out, built from ground up and weighing 1300kg and you'll have yourself a beast worth forking over the big ones for and worthy of comparison to the mighty skyline.

By the way whats the power to weight difference of the engines?

hhhmmm 4Lt turbo straight six, with most of the treads in this site its all performance talk, unless someones ragging on another member of this forum, but we do get a little defensive when someone puts down our four wheeled family members, its only natural. carn't wait till someone puts an end to the learning process in the xr6t ECU then it'll be interesting to see who willing to spend the extra $$$ most of us already do...

yeah okay you have to give ford points for the whole turbo 6 thing...but...

ford have been making mediocre family sedans with crappy build quality for thirty years...(anyone who has owned one for a few years can testify)

am I supposed to fall over with excitement cos they finally made a half decent car... its about time! Ford and Holden have taken ten years to respond to the Australian car market importing Jap cars to feed there appetite for affordable, sports cars (ones that actually perform, not V6 commodores with 'aero parts' and 'alloys')

Holden and Ford even had to get the government to kill off the importing of jap cars because it was hurting the local market. Why not just lift your game! Make better cars!

So now Ford have built a car that people who know about cars actually like!

TOO LATE! I will never buy a Ford, Ford fans may go on about the XR6T but what about the other 50 disgraceful pieces of sh!t they have built over the years.

The XR6T excites me about as much as Sam Newman in speedos... :P

There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
    • no one recommending speedtek gearsets?   i'm in the same boat as Cosline but rwd, I am holding boost back in third to 600nm at the hubs to save the gear as i make nearly 750nm at the hubs on a mainline
