Hi All,

I am building a R32 89 model (see Evs R32 thread)and am wondering if it will be eligible for Club Permit plates under the 25 year rule, either this year or next? If you are a member of SAU vic (I applied last week) can the club permit be obtained through them?

With the exception of the cage the car will have no issue with RWC as it is largely stock and quite and all the ADR gear works.

Cheers

Ev

When I went to school, 1989 + 25 was 2014. So, the car will not be eligible this year (2012) or next year (2013), but may be eligible in 2015, which will entitle you to drive the car on 45 or 90 days per year, as recorded in a logbook. If SAU has not become a signatory to the scheme, NDSOC is already a signatory, but you will need to maintain your NDSOC club membership, and you will be required to attend at least 6 club events each year (not necessarily with the car).

2014 mate

Still a while to go get before thier 25th.

Plan when I was on Committee was always to look at club rego as part of 89 GTRs, going by Johns comment - looks like it's still on the agenda which is great :)

We are not registered with Vicroads. We are looking into it at the moment though.

Im surprised that SAU still havent got this. I understand its not a overnight process and takes time but even mr2 club offer club permits and these guys are nowhere near as big as SAU.

But im sure you guys will organise this ASAP....as long as its done in next 3 years im sweet. (my car will be eligible in 3 years hehe)

this is something we are looking at,

Do remember however the conditions of rego are actually stricter than fro road cars.

IE you have to apply for a permit every year and provide a RWC to get that.

you can still be defects epa'ed and similar with this

So this is not a way to go sick with mods and think there no concerns.

I thought that post 89 Skylines would not be allowed to receive classic club reg through 25 year old type plates.

Unsure if I read that on the Vicroads site and it was a few years ago. Quite possibly I'm wrong as these rules always change with time.

The rumour around from a few places was that VicRoads were going to make it 30 years. Nothing more was said on that topic though and it goes back about 12-18months.

So it'd probably have a transition "year" of '87 or something. Given nothing more has been published or anything one can only hope they realised it was a dumb idea from the start.

I know of 2 people who have club reg, no rwc required, they have to document there car send the application to the club official (including pictures) who handles that stuff he will then decide if its possible, if it is he comes out and inspects the car, gives a yay or nay, if yay paper work gets sent to vic roads.

One of them has a KE70 with a motor that never came out in that car of with a turbo which it now has, perspex side and rear window, 6 point cage, no interior, commodore locked diff, every supension piece upgraded with adjustable items and fiberglass front panels, no rwc required, he has been defected tho, too loud and a vented catch can, fixed those and got them cleared at vic roads.

That being said if you want club reg and intend to do stupid shit then its not just the cops you have to look out for, apparently if too many cars get into shit that are registered through that club vic roads will take them off the list and therefore cancel every ones rego through that club so clubs dont allow any bullshit and can and do cancel members club reg if they bring unwanted attention to the club.

So this is correct.

you either need a RWC or a specified club official has to state your car is safe and roadworthy.

so yeah if we say yes to every-one and defects start coming in. we loose the rights and members loose rego.

So atm we are waiting on the full specs from vicroads, to work out how we are doing this.

Tony is leading the charge on this as he loves paperwork ;)

we are hoping to get this but yes if members abuse this then other members will be very unhappy..so not just for us racers to keep rego ;)

I read through the available info on Vicroads website and there aren't vehicle specific caveats for the 25 year rule.

My car will have a quite exhaust and no anodised bling....can't go wrong really???haha!

  • 1 year later...

Time to re-start this thread from over a year ago. Is the skyline club going to offer CLUB REGO Plates next year for owners of the 1989 R32 GTR? I am keen to see this club do it, but will switch over to the Datsun club if nothing is going to happen.

do any of the admin guys of the club have an update?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
