hi guys,

I just purchased a JJR 3" dump pipe and got my mechanic to fit it today and ran into trouble.. when dump pipe was fitted bottom of turbo flange was flush but had a 10-12mm gap at the top and the flange at the cat end didn't quite line up and was hitting the trans x member and couldn't get it to fit at all.. bit of a mystery as saw other ppl were running the same dump pipe on there stags.. just wondering if anyone has had the same problem..

cheers guys

r33 or 34?

some have reported r34 ones not fitting

i've got a r33 one on mine, i nudged the exhaust on something when reversing once and it hit the transmission for a while but i bent it back a bit and now its ok

you may have to get an exhaust shop to tweak it a little

I fitted one up recently (SS R33 type), I found the top flange ok, but the bottom one was about 10mm inboard towards the trans and 5-10 mm shorter lengthways.

I had to rejig the hanger/mount near the trans crossmember with an S bend and some notched holes....

The flange was really close to the trans Xmember.

Pulled my rear muffler just under my bumper, was pretty bummed but couldnt be arsed with sending back accross the other side of the country to get the exact same piece.

My car has 80% more sad kitten sounds though.

Maybe it is the Chinese who are not making them properly.

I have a JJ copy of a Gready FFP. The one I got was perfect and nicely chromed. Others I hve heard that have had to be machined flat

for the gasket to seal. There was one at NIZPRO the other day and it was shit. Jeff was sending it back.

Here's a photo sent by a customer as the Flange on those dumps wasn't milled out 100% to dump pipe gasket. It would affect turbo's performance as the step is right at where the turbine wheel sits. Would defiantly require some di-grinding and welding before installation.

That is shitty. I got my stuff about two years ago and it was first class. Sorry to see such substandard stuff coming in.

But it is not just the automotive trade that is suffering.

My wife (Mrs 66) is an artist, a VERY GOOD ARTIST, and we have an Art Gallery on Mt. Tamborine. Chinese canvas print "art" is killing the market out here.Eight years ago there was 28 picture frame moulding manufacturers in China. Today there are seven. Cheap and nasty survives. Quality goes out the window.

Sh1t, I just ordered the wrong one off JustJap. I accidentally ordered the R34 model.

Luckily, I called in time and changed to the R32/R33/C34 model instead - same price too.

Don't make the same mistake I did, otherwise it will be a bit longer and won't fit!

I cant tell if thats worse than mine, checked the gasket against the opening and there wasnt more than a mm smaller.

Is that a JJR one too?

Yours actually looks like it fits ok :/

Yeah its an r33 jjr.

Iit fit 'ok', had to bash the metal inwards near the middle bolt down on the head side so you could get a socket on the bolt, and rejig the hanger at the gearbox xmember a little but apart from that, yeah...

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
