Hi im new here, and i am looking at purchasing an r32 GT-R. I am 22, and have gotten sick of driving around in a manual v6 commodore. Time to upgrade to the ultimate car! Now i will be taking a loan out on the car.

My budget will be around $18000. (Not including insurance) i have found one which i will go check out, but what i would like to know is, how are the majority of them running these days? Are they needing rebuilds? This one i will look at claims the engine was rebuilt in 2003.

The last thing i need is to take out a loan and then have to take more money out to fix it up. I would just like some of your thoughts as i am also considering an s15. Thanks!

As they're old cars, there's bound to be issues.

I purchased one 2 years ago and spent a fair bit of coin getting it perfect.

Major things to look for are:

Functioning 4x4 - You'll be surprised how many don't...

Diffs sound mickey

Rusting

Healthy RB (get an expert, never rely on yourself)

Good gearbox

Clutch

No major leaking in the engine bay

Good luck mate... once you go R it'll be hard going back ;)

22 years old and getting an $18K loan to buy the most commonly thrashed 18-23 year old car in the world.

What could possibly go wrong?

I was 20 when I got a loan for 20k for my R32 GTR nearly 2 years ago. Haven't had any problems (knock wood). All I have had to do is general maintenance.

Two things:

Never borrow money to purchase an "asset" that depreciates, eg a car. It s a mugs game.

Second:

Dont use a GTR for a daily. They are hopeless at it.

Summary:

Save your coin until you can afford to keep a good GTR as a second car.

^^part agree with the above, not every one who borrows money to buy a car expects good resale or as an investment . . .i borrowed money to buy a 34 skyline cos i f*kn like driving them

This!

I used mind as a daily for about 3 years.

It's do-able but better with a stock clutch and softer suspension if you have aftermarket coilovers.

Summary:

Save your coin until you can afford to keep a good GTR as a second car.

This!

  • 3 weeks later...

better idea...

but still.... loan for a car is not something I would ever do.

Everyones different.

not everyone has there parents to buy them a car

or

unable to wait the time necessary to save for a car as they many need it for work.

Birdspeed13 buy what you want...just act responsibility

Good point.. what profession requires a GTR or S15?

So true. This cars are weekend toys if you ask me.

If you can afford a GTR as a daliy, you can afford a to keep it as a toy and buy another car for a daily.

Know I bet people with say to me i have used as a daily or am using as a daily now, like the post earlier but if i asked ya honestly, was it affordable?

Deep down we all know that could hardly be the case

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
