Got the Pishtony's back in today. With the original gapless rings, not the new ones (don't wanna talk about it....).  Happy to see it heading back in the right direction for a change!

Rewiring the crank trigger now as it was annoying me how I did it previously.  Hopefully get the oil pump, water pump, rear main housing,  etc bolted back on over the weekend.

I also found out what I'm very confident the issue was for the horrid noise I'd created the last time it was all back together (nearly 2 years ago ☹) which led to it all coming out again. It was the spigot bush....  🤦‍♂️.

I'd had to take out the gearbox when it was all back in the car and during that process I must have damaged it getting the box out or back in.  It's broken a big chunk out of the back of the bush which I reckon was causing the dramas as the noise was happening as I starting releasing the clutch. It felt more like a diff/gearbox/driveline issue but if that's what it was, even though it's a $10 part that's added 2 years onto how long since I last drove the car, I'll be happy!

Probably boring content sorry but to me it's exciting!  🤣

Block/sump brace in and bolted up. Oil pump and rear main plate on. She's starting to look like an engine again!

Ignore the zinc bolts on the girdle,  they're just there temporarily to hold some tension around the front and rear (where the sump bolts normally pass through the girdle and bolt direct to the block/oil pump/rear plate) while the sealant dries.

Cheers mate.  Yeah the PRP stuff is pretty!

Put the front diff cover back on and refit the oil baffles but will need to do a bit of further modification to the baffles as they're hitting on the sump brace somewhere.  I've already chopped a bit off the baffles but still hitting somewhere.  I've put some black texta on the likely locations so I can hopefully see where the contact point is (texta rubbed off) and work out if I fix it with a hammer or a grinder....  Hammer is the preference as grinder means having to re-clean everything AGAIN.

Feels good to be putting a little bit of time into it again even if only little bits here and there.

does PRP not give instructions on what needs to be modified on the baffles to fit?

and yep one step at a time, then before you know it GTR noises

Yeah they do.  If you look at the bolt hole reliefs inside the sump in the 2nd picture and the edge running from the front of the sump to the back in the 3rd picture you can see where I've taken a fair bit off the inside of the sump to clearance it.  They make no mention of the baffles in the instructions but that is what is holding up mine even though there shouldn't be any difference between my modified baffles and a normal set.  If anything there's less to mine than normal ones.  Without the baffles in the sump rail sits flush with the brace.  Put the baffles in and she no go.  I'll slowly keep hammering, grinding and current shit till it either sits flush or there's nothing left!

Got the sump on today.  I made it more of a mission than it should have been...  Some of the reliefs I'd ground out of the block weren't big enough so had to grind a coupleof cap head bolts to fit, had to drill out and tap 8mm thread into the rear plate housing for the back 2 sump bolts, had to drill out a sump hole to 8mm that I should have done when the sump was off, plus a number of other self imposed nightmares...

Fit the titanium exhaust manifold studs to the head before I whack it back on.  I must say it's a little bit of wank factor but they are bloody nicely made! The threads are so precise and you can give the nuts a good spin with your fingers and they do themselves up the whole way,  noice!

Apart from that just got a few things in order ready to bolt the head on next time I get a chance to do something. Modified my old R35 coil bracket (I think it was a Godzilla Motorsport one??) to suit the PRP plug boots.  The PRP boots are shorter so had to shorten the legs that bolt to the head to get the height right. Farked if I can find one of my coils though.... 🤦‍♂️ He gone walkies somewhere...

Still so much to do but slowly heading in the right direction! Too hot for dirtbike riding from now till April so hopefully can spend a bit more time working on it.

I hope everyone else's projects are going well! 😁

Snapped up some new slippers for my princess today.  Pretty bloody excited about them to be honest!  I've been chipping away at my car slowly as it is but hopefully these stunners keep me motivated to keep churning so I get to see it sitting on them rolling out the driveway before I die!

I saw the wheels on Facebook and instantly fell in love with them.  Procrastinated for a week then decided to try and sell my R34 GT-R wheels first before I committed to these.  Sold the GT-R wheels pretty quick so jumped on the Advan GT's before I missed out.  Won't see them until late December when I drive back through Sydney to pick them up.  Knowing myself I will look at these pictures 5 times per day until then!! 😂

Little bit of work done over the weekend.

Replaced the original cam cap bolts with Tomei studs and nuts (to be able to fit oil splash plates anywhere within the cam cover).  Not a sexy job but took a while!

Fit the PRP dual oil/coolant head drain. I previously had a different one on there so had to grub screw the original holes I'd put in the head for that one. The PRP one fits nice and looks good.

Decided to see if I could run the Boost Doc splash plates and the factory cam cover baffles as well. Surely the more shit in there to keep oil out of the breathers the better right!!! 😅

Lots of measuring, drilling, die grinding and refitting to work out what material needed to be removed. Seems to be all good now, cam covers bolt down without hitting anything which was the plan!

To save a bit of time I was able to trace the holes from the test side onto the other side which made life a lot easier.

Only time will tell if it's actually effective. I'll put some foam in there as well to slow the oil down.

Nope, that's being saved for round 2!  I'm trying to keep on track to finish it off and doing things like that are only going to stretch it out way longer than they should.

Hard to believe that I've owned my car 10 years in Jan next year....  It's been a bumpy 10 years I can tell you!  Hopefully the 10th year is the best year and I finally get to enjoy it again after waaaaay too long! 😁

Looking good. its a nice feeling to have the head on and looking like an engine again

Cheers mate, yeah it definitely felt like a defining moment to get the head back on and torqued down.  On that note, I forgot how tight 135Nm feels like when you're torqueing down a head!!  It feels like you're at the limit of the poor old studs even though I'm sure there's plenty left in them it still feels like they're about to let go at any moment!

I'm heading up north (Balina/Coffs Harbour/Nambucca/etc) with the family (god help me....) on Monday so will be out of action for a few weeks.  That actually sucks as now that I'm getting some traction I want to keep the wheels turning but this slams on the brakes again!  I've got a few days off after we get back so hopefully i can get a few things done.  Should be able to finish off the engine and get it sitting in my cradle I made ready to start thinking about sliding it back in....

Still have to buy a couple more things before I can say I pretty much have everything I need - Frenchy's In Tank Fuel Sytem and Haltech EGT sensors and then apart from little shit you never think of (fittings, hoses, sequential gearboxes, etc...) I'm pretty much done buying big stuff.  For now.

The big dilemma I'm fighting with at the moment is re-wiring the engine bay.  I've got extra wiring to add in for stuff I've added (EGT's, drive by wire setup, etc) so while I'm at it I'm really tempted to run two bulkhead fittings (one each side) to run wiring though.  I've got so many wires running through the grommet already it's a battle to get any more through.  Running 1 per side would firstly make it heaps neater and would make pulling the wiring out so much easier but obviously means a lot more dicking around rewiring the whole bloody thing as I would have to extend the majority of the wires particularly the ones running across to the drivers side to go out through that connector.  Has anyone dabbled with this before?  Would be interested to see any other examples or variations to this.

These are similar to the fittings I have-

Picked up my wheels on the way back from Sydney today. OMFG they're fu(#in stunning! I'm in love with an inanimate object...

Photos DO NOT do them justice, they look so much better in person. 😍😍

Can't wait to get them on the car even without boots just to get a feel for how they will look.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
