Dan @ ERD has replaced the guts of them but I really think you should leave it alone unless there is an issue with the existing one. Get it on the dyno and see what happens before you chase your tail replacing perfectly serviceable parts.

Presumably Automotive Service Solutions has the bits to repair them.

Asked elsewhere and yes I searched first .

If you want a fresh CAS can the sensors be replaced or do you have the replace the complete assembly . Mine is a 96 S2 GTS25T BTW .

ive got a second hand one with a broken shaft, the rest could be used if you want it..

Pretty sure I read somewhere that mercury Motorsport had new diamond cut disks fitted to some customers cars to fix high speed noise.

Also someone wrote recently about opening them up and re-aligning the disk to the optical sensor?

Mine is noisy from idle upwards so also interested what's available

Does anyone have links to or part numbers for the sensors inside these Nissan RB CAS units ? The bearings look like late alternator ones so shouldn't be a prob .

I think Kudos sell new CAS units complete but at $1000 plus is very exy . If I can get to Nissan in Rockdale I'll get them to price one , I expect much the same thing .

My CAS is a Mitsubishi and its Nissan Pt no is 23731-02U11 which is the pre mid 97 R34 CAS type .

Are they real Japanese ones or PRC ones ?

I have a link to an American 240SX site that goes inside KA24DE distributor/optical CAS units . I would be very surprised if there wasn't some internal sensor pickups that were common to SR or KA ignition systems of the same era .

Surely only the sensor and bearing are wearing parts and if we can find new ones it makes thousand dollar new assemblies unnecessary . .

I tried searching Tridon for ignition bits and found nothing .

genuine JECS/Mitsubushi/whatever internals I imagine is better, but for the price you cant really complain

I'm only looking for part numbers because armed with these you have a chance of finding them . Looks to be Nissan RSB-014

For the work involved in changing the pickup I wouldn't buy a no name POS if I could get a genuine or at least Japanese made replacement part .

Yeah just the price of a whole unit from america is pretty good.

Changing the sensor would be alright, not sure if anyone has a number for the bearings, but I have a dead CAS here I wouldn't mind playing with. Gotta try and remember how to pull them apart but. there a bit of a pain in the way they are designed (The S1 sensors that is)

Ok , from digging around it seems that there were/are two optical sensors made by Mitsubishi and Hitachi . I think the Mitsy one is Pn J926 and the Hitachi RSB14 or RSB014 .

Taiwan Ignition System (TIS) is making replacements with their own number ie Mitsy J926 = TIS242 and Hitachi RSB14 = TIS 203 .

I'll try to talk to Rockdale Nissan to get prices on CAS units and the internal sensors at least for my Mitsubishi CAS if available .

Fun stuff with a Mitsi CAS , thats the Mitsi J926 sensor BTW and in another link I'll post in a sec it looks like the Hitachis are a bit harder to rebuilt especially if you wanted to use an aftermarket sensor wheel .

These butchers need to learn about soft jaws for the vice and preferably use a hydraulic press .

This ones about changing the disc in a (I'll assume Hitachi CAS) which uses pressed on rings to hold the std disc in place .

Mine has the fluctuations getting worse with rpm but I noticed today when going from no throttle to half throttle quickly as I came out of some corners it jumped backwards 2 boxes of rpm in map tracer giving a big flat feeling before coming back to life.

Anyone else get similar things from what I presume is belt harmonics? Or just further evidence my sensor is crap?

    • This car has run before on this z32 ecu can get the part number for you, I have tried with no AFM it didn’t change anything, I compression tested today 140-150 across all 6 cylinders, also set fuel pressure to 43psi. The only weird thing was cylinder 1 plug was black and fouled other 5 cylinders were just wet with fuel. Spun cas by hand and confirmed injectors are clicking 
    • Since you came here to ask for help, have you thought about answering our questions, that might help us lead you to why it was skipping, or have you given up on getting advice?
    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
