Front Mount Intercooler In A N/a Worth It?

Recommended Posts

Can confirm factory N/A goodness. Plain gts. Did they come with boost/oil pressure in the dash?

Boost no, oil pressure yes... Also sitting tightly waiting the pics of the 32, you did send them to me back when I had my rb but I deleted the message :(

Alright guys, if you want to naturally boost an N/A, follow my write up. It should look something like this:

The throttle body is harder to get photos of, as it's further up inside the front bar after a hard pipe coming from the intercooler, but it's very self explanatory.

Pod > intercooler > throttle body > piping > car throttle body

Don't forget to gut the AFM and lay all your parts out and make sure you have enough silicone joiners and things like that to make it work.

Post up your pics!

Whoever connected that pod filter should be shot.

putting the hose clamp on the hard pod filter base pushing down on the soft flexible silicon!!!

smallest back fire and that pod filter is going to launch off.

hell get a nice hot day with the silicon softening and it could well drop straight off.

You're an idiot...

There is a hard pipe piece in between the pod and the coupler, it isn't clamping down on silicone!

Plus, the throttle body prevents a backfire coming back through the intercooler.

Good son of rajab... Kwaka... I am just going to sit here and applaud.

Why I never thought of cooling ambient air with ambient air is just a kick in the nuts. And I spent all that money on turbocharging my car. You sir... You know your spanner from your shifter. Any other advice on getting power from an NA? Shaving weight off the cams for example?

Weight can definitely be shaved off cams by taking material off the cam lobes, unless you know what you're doing though, you shouldn't do it. Valve timing becomes affected.

You didn't waste your money turboing your car, I'm just enlightening everyone to the fact that there's more than one way to skin a cat.

177rwkw in a light 20DE GTS is pretty fun!

How?

The intercooler won't fill up with air if the car is stationary and I don't intend on hanging off the front of the car risking my life just to record a sound clip for someone who has nothing positive to say, anyway.

you never heard of go pro

hanging off the car...such a newbie

I'm a newbie yet you don't know how to intercool an N/A car?

I have heard of a go pro, but have you heard of background noise? The throttle body opening isn't as audible as say, someone hitting gate. The noise is definitely audible but not to that extent. I might get him to do a fly by later.

Plus, I don't have a go pro.

Idk why you need to hear it when you can see it and the dyno sheet is there.

If i run twin throttle bodies will i get 12psi?

If so, i might ditch the 3076 setup and go with that!

Not quite, Matt.

Since there's no "forced" induction, you're really relying upon ambient air getting a bit sped up as the throttle body opens. Adding a second one will just slow it all down and probably have a negative effect.

You could get a greater effect on an N/A zed with two intercoolers and two intakes on the same plenum, but that's another story.

Well based on that i reckon a flat intake with ITB off a GTR would easily be the best option? You could fab them into the end tank?

with my last NA i was too poor to go to this much effort, I used to just open up the airbox and dump a bag of ice in there, so long as you put drain holes worked a treat..
