got up to 120kg today with wrist straps, kind of felt like cheating! Thinking of using less weight with neutral grip to build up grip strength, as it was also becoming an issue when doing bent over rows.

Chalk + mixed grip = instant +50kg grip capacity.

Other than that, there are grip strengthening exercises you can do...holding the lockout on last rep for example.

I'll wade into this to rep the amateurs :)

After starting a few months ago at around 30kg with a still heavily fuxored ankle (which still is very average) and then doing a session with Matt Mat Middleton who showed me how to do it properly/better, I'm at 98kg for reps at the moment. I'm not sure what my goal is as that's dictated to some extent my my ankle. Initially the goal was BW and now the short term goal will be to get the DL and Squat above my bench for reps (a month or two I'd say).

With Matt I pulled 8 reps at 120 so there's more there but at the moment, with a 5x5 routine 3 times a week, I take the weight increments very slowly and by the time I get to set 4-5 I've already burned up some of the little power I have. I'm not out to set any 1RMs so couldn't tell you what they actually are.

As for grip, I'm starting to find in the last 2 sets that I need to use mixed grip, I also wear gloves because girly man.

I notice grip more so on the bent row which I do straight after deads so my grip gets a good work out during that portion of the session. I do weighted chins afterwards too so again grip is tested.

Don't need to do 1RM to prove anything but they are useful for bringing volume training up and vice versa. Good plateau breaking strategy.

You get better grip without gloves!

LOL Good call, but no.

Honestly, when my grip is a serious problem, which it wont be for a while at these light weights, I'll look at what needs doing, if that' no gloves, so be it.

I'm only just on the cusp of having to alternate the grip so there's still a long way to go before I run into any real issues.

In terms of how often? Maybe, I have no idea what your regime is like. I do 5x5s 3 times a week. In terms of total time spent training the motion, not sure either.

I can say I've spent less than 3-4mths so far and of that only 5-6weeks of "proper form" after seeing Matt so I'm pretty happy with my progress so far, despite the leg and subsequent back issues I've been dealing with along the way.

Oh side bar, If it wasn't obvious, previous comment was simply baiting to get a rise out of you.

Because Birds.

I assume you know this, but wanted to clarify because forum.

You've been doing great, no question. You attacked my lifts, not the other way around :)

My training hasn't always been about being the strongest, something few understand or mention when they talk about how long I've been training for. If that was my number one goal and always has been, I'd have joined PTC a long time ago.

Well thank you for the clarification...I get attacked often enough in these here parts, it's usually safer to assume people are doing it out of malice than a good old forum ruse! Well done to you sir.

Same, I do not have the desire, dedication, balls, etc, to be a good lifter of any sort. If I can lift something semi respectable for an amateur and look semi decent I'm happy.

NP I know around these parts the line between a laugh and actual criticism can be fairly blurred for some of the people here.

Assume that the vast majority of what I say is said in jest and you'll be on the money for the most part.

Likewise :)

I do well for the places I go and the people I see, and that is good enough for me. I've always been in it for the looks, and by that I mean what other people find attractive, not some warped-over-time version of my own self obsession. Anything else that comes as a byproduct is a bonus!

    • The stock one will outperform any aftermarket standard position exhaust manifold. If you don't believe me, do a back to back test (same turbo, same boost, same timing) and you'll be super surprised.
    • Any recommendations on a decent replacement manifold that doesnt break the bank or require additional mods for the stock turbo setup? I figure if I'm going to pull the manifold off anyway to fix the studs might as well replace it.
    • So I checked the turbo out today. Very minimum play at all just enough for the oil to take up when it's running. I did find an exhaust leak at the manifold. 1 stud all the way in the front is missing and the one all the way in the back is broken off. Front has visible signs of an exhaust leak. I'll fix that soon but that's not my problem still.  I also found that the nipple coming off the turbo had the hose capped off and a hose ran from the j-pipe by the bov going to the wastegate. I removed that hose and capped that nipple and put the turbo nipple hose back on the wastegate.  There was a ton of oil residue all through the charge side of the intercooler piping going to the throttle bodg. I'm thinking that's from the pcv. Doesn't seem to be coming from the turbo that was all clean on the pipes side.  Haven't had a chance to check fuel pressure yet, haven't had time been having to pull a lot of doubles at work. I did pick up some carb cleaner to clean the iacv but wanted to make sure I had a fresh gasket in case the old one rips when I pull it off.  I'm waiting on a MAF that was supposed to be here today but delayed to Monday. Have a double Monday and Friday and work all of next weekend so going to try to find some time in the middle of the week to try that out. Did about a 10m trip around the block today and towards the end the issues were coming back. Fingers crossed on this MAF but if not just going to throw a fuel pressure gauge in and see where I'm at.  Did notice today that I can definitely hear the injectors pulsing. Very audible clicking coming from them. Assuming that's normal? Should also mean CAS is functioning somewhat properly. After it warmed up when I started it the intermittent misfires came in again. Did start doing that before it was fully warmed up.
    • This morning I carefully reinstalled the manifold and started looking at a couple of things I need to do.  Heat wrap arrived sometime today so I popped into the shed with the missus dishwashing gloves and started wrapping the first half of the dump and the screamer/plumb back.  Once I do the second half I'll be able to final fit the turbo and exhaust up.  Also pulled the harness out today and started terminating it at the ECU end. A connector is done, just need to run the remaining wires that arent in the harness - 12v, gnd and couple I/O
    • A31 is pretty much the same thing without HiAIDS I mean CAS, no improvement lol. Not to late to send it.
