Hi guys,

My r32 Gtr is on dyno and has a missfire on gate pressure of 9psi. Engine is a forged std stroke 26 with jun 264/270 9.5 mm lift cams (I think as these were purchased before my surgery) it has adaptronic ecu, split fire plugs running map sensor . New coil pack harness and bosch 2200 cc injectors with resistor removed. My tuner (jez) is awsome and has tried plugs, coils, harness , cas, adjusting cam timing as well as tune. He has adaptronic guy coming tomorrow to hopefully fix it but any ideas are welcome. He also did comp test which came back perfect. The engine also has new -5 turbos with ported manifolds and the head is mildly ported if that helps and smoke test showed no leaks at 2psi. The car was and is very difficult to tune and was a pig to get running at first, right now it has fresh shell 98 but has a flex fuel sensor waiting e85 tune if we can sought this miss out. Any help is appreciated

Scott

Qualify - I don't know much.

But I would place a bet on your adaptronic ECU.

and therefore the course of action being taken by Jez and yourself.

Not much help but I think your on the right path.

Edit: Don't stress over it tonight

I didn't but it was built by an engine builder in qld and was running 387kw without dramas when I purchased the engine it had travelled about 2000ks inc dyno work only change is cams and big end bearings just because I had sump off

Andy and jez spent 4 hours with it last night, swapped to another adaptronic , swapped injectors and problem still there so it's thought that its either due to wasted spark system or a mechanical fault yet undetermined. Jez is installing a nistune to see if it makes a difference other than that only thing we can come up with is put cams back to stock ones and if that doesn't work I guess engine out and full strip rebuild and blue print if all cc size of ports and seat pressures , ring gaps and clearances etc, fingers crossed but I'd love some ideas or if someone has experienced similar thing? I've search for at least 6 hours and I've found cams with Hyd lifters can cause missfire but these are solid type drop in juns? So no idea really

oh that was you that came past Jez's yesterday (he told me when u left) that was me working on my car while it was on the dyno...

he did mention (and I herd when he started it) that your top end is Very noisy, not sure if this may result in the problems you are having ?

Nice car mate very neat Install and nice power too! It seems I was ripped off with cams from a seller on here whom I can't remember due to surgery well there is a lesson don't buy important parts after brain surgery lol. Jez changed cams and it silky smooth and quiet. It seems I must have measured clearances wrong in thou instead of mm or something cause clearance was at least .75 when should be .30. Base circle much shorter as was duration and lift about the same. So stock cams back in and see how it goes tonight! Fingers crossed as we have both had enough of it that's for sure!

thanks mate she is my baby !

exactly lol always important to check clearances with every cam install !!! and if the base circle was smaller then it would definetly need new shims etc

well fingers crossed all goes well now keep us updated !

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
