Hey guys,

I thought I would start a dedicated thread for this question instead of hijacking my own build thread.

We are building a Sports Sedan and have an RB power plant we are building for 500+rwkw.

Question is...... Haltech or Motec?

Already have The Haltech PS2000 and Racepak Dash.

But some people have been saying go Motec at this stage.

Thoughts?

Money is definitely an object!!!

But I just don't want to skimp on such an important part of the engine package. Sounds like Haltech is the go from what ! am hearing though!

I personally don't like motec because every time I have anything to do with them they give me the shits. But if you want to look to the future running fly buy wire throttle has a world of advantages over mechanical throttle. Motec will run this well haltec not. That's just one advantage. Motec will also work with haltec dash just takes a bit of work

Haltech have just announced a new ECU that has fly by wire support, but not sure if it does traction control. The motec has more features, but are they features that you are going to use? They will both control the engine the same

Have a look at Syvecs, I'm running the S8 on my 34 GTR street car

http://www.syvecs.co.uk/

They where the first and are the most used stand alone on the R35 GTR and the ECU that comes with the alpha kit

Just another option

Did you wire in or make a patch loom up??

  • 1 year later...

the single greatest advantage of a Motec, is they're exceptionally updateable.

my tuner bought his Motec in 2001, and he just gets an email from Motec saying updates are available, he says yes and gets them via email,

so his 15yo ECU is on par with a current M800

I would love a Motec, but can't justify the extra few thousand that is needed to go that way.

Do yourself a favor and look at KV8 EMTRON, we have just finished a Sports Sedan (recent championship winner) with one. Unrivalled input output count, real traction control and launch control not just a listed minimal feature. Its well known in serious motorsport circles as of late.

in built 3 axis accelerometer

dual CAN

on board dual 4.9 wideband

on board dual knock

fly by wire

auto blip

auto change etc

16 aux out

14 analogue inputs

12 digital inputs

Just an unbiased suggestion, we tune and fit everything with Haltech elite being my preferred solution for everything except full race stuff as it is not quite fully featured yet... give it a year or so and no doubt all the features will be released and it will be comparable. With the haltech you also dont have anywhere enough input outputs without buying a lot of expansion CAN products.

We are looking at EMTRON as the premium product that was reserved for MOTEC customers in the past... the EMTRON is fully featured out of the box so NO need to PAY to UNLOCK.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
