So, here is a turn up for the books. On my way to work this morning and I was pulled up by an unmarked police car.

A little unusual, but it always seems that I get RBT'd in the morning  .

Anyway expecting the RBT and the policeman pulls out a swab. Wow, OK.

Anyhoo, went without a hitch despite being held up for 10 mins waiting for the result. I have never had this happen before.

Just wondering how prevalent this is?

Also, I understand that if you have been indulging the night or even week before you can be picked up. It seems that it is black and white. You are or you're not, unlike the 0.05 rule with alcohol.

Apparently James the incidence of illicit drugs in motorists is running as high as 1 in 15 (in eastern seaboard cities atm).

Our next door neighbour's daughter a few yrs ago was walking along the GWH and was killed by a woman driving under the influence of weed.

Nowadays, there's a lot of amphetamine and methamphetamine too.

The more druggies the cops catch the less car thefts there'll be (to some extent).

I think drug testing is a great thing. Unfortunately it's limited what it can test for. Obviously I won't specify that! Very high percentage of drivers involved in fatal collisions positive to drugs.

Hmm I don't mind that cops Drug Test anyone, it's their job to it's hard to come around that but, just wondering these tests would really only pick up drugs that are exclusive to blood and found in saliva (which is most drugs) but i'm wondering if drugs people take for medical use such as like different strands of painkillers will come up? in which case they are just getting an indication that there are drugs in their body and then have to take it for further testing that will take more time.

In the future, if marijuanha is used for painkilling purposes, it'll require a prescription - probably for marijuanha biscuits.

That prescription/repeat copy will probably need to be on the person himself/herself.

That's not to say though that some people might fake pain to qualify for such a script - in which case, they can legally have marijuanha in the system whilst drug tested.

Interesting post Andrew.

I have been drug tested about 4-5 years ago when I was on my P's in Geelong, obviously negative result.

I think it is a great thing, because if there is any trace of drugs then that = a court date/fine whatever...

HOWEVER with alcohol its kind of a temptation thing... Because we are allowed to be .05 we know we can get away with having a drink, or is it half a drink for some people?

or can the big guy (me) have 2 standard drinks and be fine?

Or maybe even that pot you had with dinner has put you over.. and there is no way of finding out either!?

Sure you can spend up to a grand on a proper breath testing unit but who the f**k does that?, and furthermore it's still not going to give the same result as the police breath tester!...

Either way its a messed up situation, and I strongly believe that it should be .00 for EVERYONE and also no drugs... coz drugs are bad mmkaayyy

Edit - the only reason I believe it should be 00 is because it then takes the temptation away, so theres no guessing if your drink driving or not.

That's an interesting post too Daniel.

It may not be workable whilst several cough medicines contain alcohol; but would it save Lives?

The answer is YES. Alcohol is still the most abused drug in our society.

this is why p platers used to(and may still) have a 0.02 limit, to cover medicines.

It sure is abused!

I've heard myths that someone got away with drink driving by claiming they "ate a cherry ripe".

Save lives? I dunno, but if its going to stop drink drivers running into me then I'm all for it.

Last April a drunk driver rear ended my pride and joy 180sx and completely wrote it off... luckily he had full comp insurance and I bought a 34, even though I'm over the moon about my 34, I'd still rather have not gone through that heartbreak I experienced!

I had pizza on the passenger seat when I got RBT's, the machine you speak into gave a positive reading, blew a 0. Yes, the officer on duty said straight away it's the pizza before breathe testing me the second time.

scary thing is that alcohol is a legal drug. so easy to get, costs 2 much for me though lol

I haven't been drug tested on the road, but I have been at work. The first time it happened I learnt a few things...

1. Codeine has a half life of around 24-48 hours

2. Codeine is an opiate, and because it is an opiate it flags a positive for opiates (eg, morphine, opium, heroin ect)

3. It pays to keep the Nurofen Plus packaging on your person to help build your case that you aren't shooting up during your lunch break

I would say the mobile phone whilst driving is a close second most abused drug in society.

The number of retards texting and shit while they drive is staggering.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
