Hi all,

Getting the bits together for my E85 conversion but the biggest issue I am concerned about is my ECU. It's an old Wolf V4 and I want to run a 1400cc Ethanol injector.

http://scottyscustoms.com.au/product/1400cc-injectors/

Would like to know a few things.. I spoke to Wolf and they said the ecu should be able to run the injectors, however, they are high impedance and I currently run low impedance. Has anyone used high impedance injectors on this ECU before? Just want to be certain.

2nd.. Will these injectors be tunable down low for idle and low rpm?

3rd.. I run a single 044 now, will it be better to add a second 044 or upgrade to a bigger single pump? any ideas?

I'd like to upgrade the Wolf at some point soon but don't want to go through the hassle of it if I don't really need to.

Thanks for the help,

G

These new matched 1400 sets idle and cruise fine Gareth, most tuners will be sceptical initially, as they would rather the tried and tested Bosch ev14's, but you will find these tune perfectly using the supplied dead time chart, as long as the Wolf can drive them. You may be able to add a resistor if the ecu really needs a low impedance load (but I doubt it), perhaps check the Wolf forums if a Google search falls through?

How much power are you hoping to make? A single e85 Walbro is hard to pass on, cheap and it will flow 450 odd kw on ethanol, unless you have a surge tank? If so a Fuelab or similar pwm controlled turbine pump may be the answer imo, to combat the fuel heating issue on ethanol especially.

Not sure there is a top feed rail available for the FJ, I am told they sometimes machine the injector tops down and make hose tails to suit the stock setup, otherwise a custom rail may be required for either11/14mm.

Hey Scott,

Yeah, just trying to get as much info before I go ahead with the fuel system upgrade. If I can run the injectors by just effectively 'plug and play' then that would be great.

Haven't found anything on google yet about anyone running high imp injectors on a Wolf V4.

I hope to make around 500 rear wheel HP. (I make 400 @17psi now on 98) so with boost up and e85 I hope that's realistic.

I run a surge tank so I will look into bigger single external pumps.. Are twin 044s a good cost effective option?

Fuel rail I have found a pre fab kit online.

Any continued info would be awesome, thanks for the input!

I'm driving a set of ID1000's with a wolf 3D V4 plug in. It's ok for a drift car but struggles a bit to controll them nicely at idle/ low rpm part throttle.

If it's a road car, it would be hard to go past a haltech plug in/PS 1000/2000 to controll them nicely.

Cheers

J.

Hi has my car running with a wolf ver 4 plugin ecu with 660cc injectors it was not tuned by a shop but I had problems with idle and partial throttle so I changed the settings and minor change to the injector wiring for semi sequential and the car idled much better and didn't have lots of soot coming from the exhaust but as I say it has never been tuned drop me you email and I will send you the info if you like

how's the software like? never played with a Wolf 3D - but it can't be that bad right?

I've tuned a few adaptronic semi sequential ECUs and they idle like stock with lean AFRs and none of this hard to start, stuttering business.

As long as the injectors are fired in the correct order it should run fine in pairs. If you pair the wrong injectors it will sound very lumpy down low, as they are just spraying onto the back of the valve.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'll just have to suck it and see.

I'm a little concerned about the wolf driving high impedance injectors however. What happens if the ecu can't run them? Will it cause an issue or fault in the ecu? I have no experience in this department..

its more of an ecu thing. The injectors are fine. There are hundreds of ecus on the market and wolf is still the only ecu we refuse to touch.

    • So been ocd with timing mark but checked from few angle and seems both cam are on and crank is matching as well to the slot on sump and crank pully i noticed crankshaft cover has been robbed as per attached pic. Any ideas why? Could my balancer or harmonic be on its way out? should I replace the cover? https://ibb.co/ZR1JFYRR
    • So now doing the change and first time dealing with rb so little nervous giving engine power and potential for screwing it up When you align all marks and then remove crank bolt, timing move little I assume you can put the bolt back in once you have removed the pully to get timing to where you want? here is pic of my both intake and exchust cam aligned, depending on angle you look they seem to be either aligned or a half tooth or so out. Any thoughts? Should you angle your face and look at each mark that way as if looking straight rather than from above as it can be misleading https://ibb.co/ZpnhcvbF https://ibb.co/4wm2wn4q
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy Haven't really thought of that yet, but you are right. If the hose was damaged it should be absolutely pissing by now. I'll put some heat sleeve around it for good measure since I'm already removing the line anyway. Maybe I'll put on some of the stock hardlines if I ever fully remove the turbos again. Maybe when T51R modding the compressor housings? Might be a fun mod on GT28s for that "fake single turbo" effect.
    • Update 1: I did some work on the car already before finalizing this post and my "issues" list. I dropped the Tomei exhaust in favor of the HKS Hi Power Silent. Sounds nice and I can actually hear myself think now. Also gives me a realistic chance to legally drive without silencer inserts. A bit of cheating was necessary to still be able to mount the Top Secret style diffuser. Some malusage of washers and a bit of "convincing" toward the brackets and exhaust hanger seemed to do the trick. The shaky steering wheel has been resolved as various suspension components were worn, like sway bar bushings and link bars. Most notably the two steering tie rod ends. Had some trouble finding bushings because my sway bars are not OEM thickness, 23.x up front and 27 rear. But non adjustable, so no aftermarket I suppose. Maybe they are nismo units? Turbo oil drain hoses were definitely still the originals and are new now. Wasn't the cause of the turbo oil leak sadly. Currently removing the rear turbo because of it, I suspect the braided oil feed line is the culprit. This issue needs to be dealt with so I can work towards actually getting the turbo setup legal and inspected. Two new issues to add to the list as well. Rear Main seal is probably leaking. Time will show how bad it is, I don't really want to drop the gearbox right now just for the stupid seal. Could fix a few other things in one go once I do that. Front right driveshaft grease is going past the cv boot, so at some point I'll fix that too.
    • Ok so no 4cyl clutch... Yeah it is a factory manual. So if iam correct i need clutch and flywheel too? I can use something that suits something like R32 GTST? EDIT: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224291042776 Is this ok? EDIT2: i maybe forget to mention this(dk how important it is) but the trans will be behind RB25DET NEO(iam doing swap) It will be there for a little while. Iam planing to do bigbox or BMW tranny..
