And here's where it gets funny. Just on the offchance that he has one of those chicken lips R34s with a helical LSD, then the jack it up and spin a wheel test will not prove that it is LSD. It will instead indicate that it is not LSD, even though it really has one.

But yes, unless someone has been completely retarded, then every turbo R34 has an LSD.

I always thought all R34 GT-T manuals (series 1 and 2) came with the helical torsen diff, and the auto's came with the VLSD's?

R34 GT-t S1 has a VLSD = gay

R34 GT-t S2 has a Helical = pretty damn awesome for a street car with mild power.

This attached brochure (third last page) says the manuals were helical and the auto's viscous. That being said, perhaps the NZ imports were all specified with the helical diffs.

No. Most of the manuals are viscous too. It doesn't even seem to be true that all the S2s have a helical, from what I've seen!

I know. I used to use that brochure as the basis for my belief along the same lines. But the sad reality seems to be different. I have secondhand knowledge of only 2 R34s with helical diffs. All the R34 diffs I've followed up for my own purposes have been viscous, regardless of whether they were 4.11 or 4.08.

Mine is a S2, pretty sure it has a helical diff in it. Built March 2001, factory manual etc

Is there any way of easily checking?

The back end sure feels better than the old viscous LSD in my 32, and hooks up as well as the 1.5 way mechanical diff I put in the 32 without the clunking around low speed corners.

You can feel the front end want to push straight if you are taking pretty constant corner and start to feed on the power, much like it did when I swapped the diff in the 32

The brochure linked is ONLY for s2 R34's.

S2 R34's are pretty rare to begin with. They were only made for like 6 months, Late 2000 to early 2001.

99% (no idea on the number) of R34's are S1's.

I've had both diffs (well, I had a S15 diff, but its the same center...) and I actually prefer the VLSD... when it's working as the one in my car was/is in good condition (for now).

The predictability was really quite noticeably better than the Helical diff, which likes to inside spin REAL easy, which isn't really a problem at 150rwkw with good tyres, but dial it up to 400 then try and take a corner under power and then you'll find the back end being nice and unpredictable which is quite undesirable.

I've got a r34 gtt series 2, but mine use to be a auto so the diff is a VLSD and its shit, single spinning for daysss..

I had a s15 1.5way kazz lsd i was going to fit but surprisingly its completely different. On the forum everyone says they are the same diff but NOOO..

The r34 gtt has 2 abs sensors, one on each side of the diff where the axels connect and its a short nose r200 diff housing.

The s15 has one abs sensor where the diff connects to the tail shaft hence it has a long nose housing...

SO dunno how people use s15 diffs in r34s... :verymad::verymad:

Also my car had S15 diff, and both driveshafts.

Also it was originally a N/A, so it didn't have the traction control sensors or HICAS to remove/deal with/keep working.

It also had the ABS computer from a S15 installed into it.

(it'd be far smarter to swap the center)

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
