Hey guys,

I have a r32 with an rb20det and an rb25 turbo. The turbo blew up and i replaced it with another rb25 turbo. Ever since replacing it the boost pressure wont limit itself. Anything over 3500-4000rpm causes the boost pressure to spike. It got to around 15 psi before i backed off to avoid damaging the turbo or other components. I have a turbosmart boost tee installed which was set to 12psi before swapping turbos and worked perfectly. After this issue i wound it right back to see if that was the issue but im still having the same problem.

Any ideas on what the problem would be?

Well seeing as the waste gate Controls boost it would be wise to check you plumbed it up correctly.

What else could have changed?

Ill triple check that in the morning but im pretty sure its plumbed up correctly.

Thats what has me confused. Ive checked all the basic stuff and no luck. Im just hoping for ideas on things I may have missed.

What happens when the boost controller is removed wastegate is plumbed directly?

I haven't tried that yet as I don't have a length of pipe long enough. I'm not gonna rule that out, but the boost controller was working perfectly before the turbo swap. If i cant fix it ill buy some pipe and try that though

Are you sure your hoses are going into the correct ports on the solenoid?

The point is the wastegate may not even be opening sufficiently due to a physical obstruction or a problem with the actuator.

Could be a dodgy Watergate or possibly the flap is fouling on the dump pipe

How would i diagnose this? And then how would I fix it if it is the issue?

To diagnose the wastegate flap fouling you need to disconnect the wastegate and swing the flap to see if it opens.

I did this and the flap moves easily. Not fouling on anything.

Is the boost T the right way? They are a one way valve inside.

I can't tell if the boost source for the turbo actuator is coming from the BOV or not, it should come from the piping.

Yeah the boost tee is the right way. There is an arrow on it that has to be pointed towards the wastegate, which it is.

The boost source is coming from the piping not the BOV.

As has been said, try running the wastegate straight from the piping.

There is always the chance though that the wastegate itself is damaged. If you have a pump you could attach it to the line to the wastegate and see if it opens when pressure is applied (or if the diaphragm in the wastegate is damaged)

Kinugawa makes an actuator where you can replace the springs to suit the boost level you want to run.

I am using one on a hypergear turbo, although I had to make a new bracket in order to mount it to the turbo. Its supposed to fit a stock turbo though.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again 
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
