start of 2 he had one (was actually his own car at that)

then in fast & furious (the 4th one) he builds up a BSB R34 from impound parts and it gets blown up, then steals the STI

It's so sad that you know this

Sport mode?

Might not be available in 265 I had in France.

Haha exactly...button is way too hidden.

It was in the 265 I rented, should be in all of them...to the far right of steering wheel past where ignition barrel would normally be. Hold down for 5 seconds and off goes ESC, idle raises to 1300rpm, throttle becomes sensitive as if the flywheel has been instantly lightened, you get a more aggressive tune for more power/torque, electric steering becomes heavier and tighter. Real jerky around low speed movements but it's a whole different car when giving it stick - actually impressed me cause with sport mode off I thought it was way too docile and didn't see the fuss.

Ah, I remember now.

RS mode.

It's excellent in corners like I said the other day yeah?

Didn't get enough corner action to explore this but had plenty of grip when diving into turns full throttle

Yeah, was on the other side for me haha.

They do wake up a lot with RS mode, made a drive around Austrian/Swiss alps and Nordschelefie very enjoyable.

I'd go as far as say it's the best handling FF cars out there, ze Golf doesn't grip that much into turns and mine's all paw.

For everyday driving, Golf wins hand down. Unless you live in someplace with silky smooth roads.

You get a lot of car for the money, no? 43k for base model. Pretty good all rounder / daily track weapon and one of the better looking hot hatches I think.

Yep, they're lot of car for the money. And they do look good, bit of a pain driving it through small European towns at times!

New RS is coming here this year and it'll have 5 door and dual clutch transmission (option I believe) along with 4 wheel steer for both parking and spirited driving. I think it's out in Europe sometime soon?

Yeah newfound respect for the French makers. I've driven Peugeots and Renaults before and this was a different class of car. I've read this car came about as part of a tender to replace the WRXs in the fleet of the national guard fast response unit, so the cars had to be more capable than those. It's no Skyline for raw fun but if you have to upgrade to the 21st century, would strongly consider.

I've thought about moving on ze Golf for one of these purely for the driving experience. With RS mode on, it doesn't feel modular like modern cars. Instead, it feels like GC/F WRX's - unfiltered fun.

Although, Golf is better in everything else IMO.

Oh and I hope Renault has sorted the cup holder issue.

D95 model can only fit a can of Red Bull and thats it. Must be their "partnership" with Red Bull F1 team :P

Haha well there is a Red Bull edition...

And all the usual French quirks. Who the hell puts cruise control near the centre console?! Red seatbelts are cool.

Yeah, I remembered searching forever for the cruise button and resorted to handbook only to find it's all in French!

Then gave up and started pressing all buttons....

RS comes with a front diff which is more than most sporty FF cars... I can't remember if it was like an electric diff or mostly mech.

I like them but they bit too big and heavy for a "small" car. Probably take the Clio personally. (Not that I've driven either)

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
