So Team,

Pulled the trigger and updated from the very much loved 'Sonic' the 4 Door R33 GTST.......................

And purchased yet another 1996 Skyline (to much head shaking from my Wife!).

Picked it up here in Canberra, as it is really clean and had a good build list base to have plenty of fun in.

So what do you do when you buy a new Skyline the day after you buy it?

Take it straight to the track of course!

On the wettest day in Goulburn history.................................... Was fun in a new car though:

Give me a wave if you see me!

^^ Yes, it has obviously been looked after, and TBH I really didn't have to buy it, but I see so many crap ones about that if the right one pops up, grab it. Wanted a 34GTR in BB but couldn't justify the extra $35K.

So, it pretty much has everything done,if you were rebuilding a car, but it has a few issues things that need changing.

Firstly it's running god damn rich... Took me about an hour to clay bar the rear bar after the track day.

So, I'll throw a Haltech, injectors and a decent pump in and an E85 flex tune, while i'm at it.

The -7 Turbos a bit small but are near new so will persevere with them.

Thanks Shaun. She's a beaut. Can you please confirm it has stock AFM's? Looks like it but not 100% sure.

Also, can you remember the flow rate of the fuel pump? Looks like it may be pretty close to maxed as well.

Oh the other thing, are you able to adjust the rear shock dampers like the front? and if so how do you access the knobs?

Cheers,

James

You coming to the track day on 23rd? Be nice to see it then.

Probably!

why on earth did you buy my sway bars James, nice upgrade!!!

Yeah, itchy feet. The guy that bought the 4Door has a nice set of swaybars. Made a huge difference to the body roll.

Oh Ok. How much? Miight be a baindaid solution though. Depends on what ESP come back with price wise for the Haltech.

are you going E85?

IDK how much, don't know if i still have them, but if i do i can let them go pretty cheap. I can have a look if you think you will need them though.

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
