Rb30 Holdern Into A Skyline

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i just brought my first car today, its a 1987 TI and it has a blown motor. I found a motor out of a vl and i was wondering if it will just slip straight in and run with the skyline ecu or will i be better changing the ecu's? and will there be any other problems ill run into? thanks:)

The above ^^ is only relevant to twin cam rb30 builds.

Yes, the VL rb30 will work in an R31.

You will have to change the harmonic balancer depending on if you want to run R31 or VL accessories.

Easier to use your crank angle sensor and distributor your ECU was already using, you cannot interchange CASs (vl - hitachi, r31 - mitsubishi) only the distributor as a whole. Use the same alternator.

I've had a VL and an R31, they ran different ecu's.

That's not to say it won't run, just informing you that good old GM wasn't satisfied with the Rb30 as she came, they had to tinker.

Different fan and fan clutch too, another weird thing to change.
