if i was you i'd be taking the car to somewhere else just to do a dyno power run, as if i had spent my hard earned $$$ and changed to a turbo that can take 18psi on a rb20 and then got less power than a standard rb20 at 14psi it would make me think "WTF"...

106rwkw at 5000rpm at 16psi apparently this is as much as a hotted up 5ltr HSV (cam exhaust, cold air) on his dyno.  It was run in 5th gear.

This is a crap figure so you know I am not lying.  There was no fan so the IC wasn't working (does that make sense.)

I have also had fitted a BOV that is set to 16.5psi, the turbo I got is not ceramic so it will go to 18psi.

Does anyone have a comment on how what dyno figures really mean.....?

I wouldn't be at all happy with that power figure!! Stock FJ makes 110rkw!!! Mate of mine with an RB20 made 197rwkw with just a VG30 turbo, FMIC and exhuast, not tuned or anything..Did u end up getting another power run elsewhere or???

at the wheels a standard r32 gtst should make 115-117kws, with a 3" full exhaust that will get around 15kw extra then add a good fmic for another 10-15kw remap the ECU to run 14psi and that will leave you with 150-160rwkw

That is exactly what I thought. I should have around 220fwkw at 15-16psi with the mods I've got.

didn't get around running it on a dyno but I found a leak. I used permatek type 3 around the leak but I haven't run it hard yet. I'll repost when I eventually get around to dynoing again.

Doing it the way he did doesnt sound at all dodgy to me, much hbetter to tune it for those conditions, then you can be sure it wont expire in summer.

Intercooler is just a heat sink in any case, even without a fan it should be ok for a single run because while the car is idling before you run its not getting any heat transferred to it so it starts cool

My stock boost FJ20 made 124 in shootout mode

how does the VG30 turbo rate on an RB25? they are steel wheel/shaft right?

whats the difference in A/R to the RB25 turbo?

Im not 100% sure on the size differences compared with the RB25 turbo, i do know that u can get two types of VG30 turbo though, one's ball bearing the other is bush bearing...Most VGs are ceramic wheel whilst u may just find one or a few that are steel, they exist but are rare as...

If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
