Hi guys

New to this forum.

Bought a 1996 R33 GT-R last year in pieces as a project for my father and I to get stuck into.

Its been a long few months gathering parts for the motor etc whilst fiddling with my other car. All the funds were getting put in to the other car. Now its time to sort out the Skyline :D

The R33 GTR has always been the JDM car Ive wanted, sadly they were out of my price range at the time of finding a clean one and then the rx7 came along.

Fast forward nearly 2 years and I saw an unfinished R33 project for sale. Phoned the guy and turns out it is a mate of mine from Primary School's car. In other words got a serious family discount.

Interior has recently been re-done in leather with white stitching
Car has been resprayed Pearl White
Brand new Top Secret bodykit

Also got the following with the car:

1x stock bonnet
1x brand new carbon vented bonnet
a set of brand new Wedssport 19's with brand new falken 255/40/19 tyres
1x stock bumper
1x Top Secret Bumper
1x Half cage
Brand new Tein Coilovers

Bit of a bargain I think 8)

When collecting the car

Cant wait to start working on the car and getting it done

Thats how they came hey

But will look for a square set to run with ET15 in future

There are many claims that staggered wheels can cause issues for ATTESA. I'm not convinced having run staggered on a GTR and a Stagea before but there will be a lot of others who might have had issues. Up to you if its worth the risk.

Well still gonna be a while before car is mobile so will prob get a square set for the car. Need to strip whole car respray it and then assemble everything again. Going to be dropping both subframes and cleaning everything up

Hi guys

Buys building a rotisserie to put the car on to inspect under the car and fix up the sills on the car. Will be removing subframes and doors. Need new windscreen rubbers front and back too.

Getting my ATI damper soon as well as the ARP bolts then the motor will go in for clearances and assembling.

Got a friend building me a nice holset turbo as well. Might sell my rx7 which will free up funds to finish off this car quickly

Hi guys

been a while. Sold the narrow and wide gold wheels. Bought a set of OEM R34 gtr wheels with brand new Michelin rubber. Not much work done on the car of late.

We stripped the subframes out the car and then sent it in for sandblasting. Rear subframe looked a bit tired so will be swapping in the vspec rear end from the smashed R33 I bought a while back. Rotisserie is nearly done then we can sort out the underneath and the side sills of the car.

Need to get some ARP bolts now and get my sump extended so I can then build the motor. I got a nice Single turbo twinscroll manifold for the car now as well. Next on the list will be a mafless ECU to purchase.

My father will be in AUS from 20 February he is flying Guns n Roses on their tour so will be there a few days and wants to check out some JDm places and and workshops.

    • forgot to mention that when it does this it does not kill the engine, but I have not kept the pedal down long enough to let it, as I see no reason to beat up on it as its got to be something simple, small and dumb causing this.  And as soon as I let off pedal, the engine returns to its normal super smooth operation and rpms re-stabilize quickly, once below 4k.
    • neither stumble or cut really seem to be an appropriate term....hard to explain its like a rev limiter but at 4k, but it violently shakes engine and entire vehicle as the rpms will not rise over 4k, even with slow acceleration. as soon as it hits 4k, it sounds like entire spark is lost entirely. plugs were 1.1 which I used as such, but later put in new plugs gapped down to .8 changed back after issue arose when I replaced the coils, still does it with either plug gap...damn and it was all running so good.
    • Oh how times have changed! I actually lean it out relative to my water/methanol injector duty cycle. The methanol adds a lot of fueling and you can then lean it out even more due to reduced knock.
    • Yeah my thoughts are the same, a well thought out WMI setup, would be slightly ahead of just straight E85 and you're also chemically intercooling the charged air, dropping it even further. This is why you need to add so much more fuel as soon as you spray. I remember someone taking me through their set up before (Dennis, has a R33, lives around Cabramatta - no idea if he's still around on this forum). He would target AFR 10:1 on 98, then as WMI ramped on, AFR would lean back up to 11:1. Amazingly, he did this all through his PowerFC, a relay to cut power to his EBC solenoid if there was not enough line pressure on his WMI kit. And of course, if there wasn't any boost made above gate pressure, you wouldn't be accessing the load cells with heaps of timing for WMI. One downside to that rudimentary setup, once the WMI came on, the EBC would unleash the dragon, and of course all the timing. Tyres would fry lol.
    • Shimmed or shimless, still solid, no hydraulic pump up stuff.
