Its not really that modern of an engine, I mean what has changed on it since they first went DOHC?
What I would define as a modern engine is something with VVL and direct injection. Without that its just a matter of not having a totally shit combustion chamber design and throwing in more boost and timing.

Interesting. I just got home from a cruise with some mates.

My mate with a tuned Barra got pissed on by an 34 tonight.

That's right, the guy in the 34 had time to stop, flop out is dick and piss on my mates car as he drove past.

Is that hilarious enough for you.

Because I find it bloody funny.

That barra engine wasnt in a skyline with skyline diff ratios and had an extra 400+ kg to move.

Both of those things together make a big difference.

XGTRX thinks if you make X horsepower on a dyno you MUST run Y MPH down the strip or your telling lies about dyno figures. Don't confuse him with diff ratio's and weight which might effect the outcome

I have been swapping out diff's and tranies and converters before you were still a twinkle in your father's eye sunshine.

And yes, if u run the same gearing and weight then difference in Mph (within a range), is related to engine power.

I have always been a supporter of getting the best out of your car by drive line mods.

Oh the good old days of a celica 5 speed bolted to a 202 with a ute diff and destroying 308s on the street. Good times those.

One tonner diffs are 3.90

I think the HQs were 4.4s. But anything was better than the 2.7 that came in the sedan. But you are right most of them were 3.9s. Smashed so many of them back then I just put in what ever they had at the wreckers.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
