Fair enough.  I'd actually glossed over the fact that the HKS cams were staggered.  My opinion on the matter of staggered cams with bigger exhausts on turbo engines leads towards discussion of fixing the problem that requires a staggered cam instead of the band-aid solution.  External gates &/or bigger rear housings &/or better ex manifolds being the non-band-aid solutions.

Yeah I get where your coming from with the "bandaid" idea.. some might assume they can gain some response from getting more exhaust energy into the turbo with the bigger staggered exhaust cam when they should rather be spending the money and effort on better boost control, a better flowing manifold or a free flowing exhaust etc.

That certainly isn't the case with my setup haha I have great response already and I was merely asking if you fine people think I might be able the pick up a few more hp without having my current graph curve drop below anywhere along the rev range from what it currently does [emoji4][emoji1365]

I think that the 256 cams are not as much about adding more power as removing the compromises manufacturers have to make to the std cam profile for emission regs.  I have the Tomei's [but can't compare cos like everyone else does, I also changed turbo's and other stuff at the same time] but for me it was all about efficiency.  I would be looking at using the $$$ elsewhere if you want noticeable power gains.

I have a Platinum Racing R35 coil kit with R35 splitfires, Platinum Racing trigger kit, Taarks V3 twin walbro surge tank, HKS 1000cc injectors and rail, Oversized 49mm rb26 itb's with NAPREC 50mm gaskets, HKS 100mm cooler and a link G4+ all going on my rb25 in a few weeks so I'm all about wasting money on shit for small gains hahah...

I also have a new HTZ3076 with a Garrett 1.01 a/r twin scroll rear housing and I'm having a true equal length long runner low mount manifold made by specialist manifold maker altrack in Japan in the coming months, so more power is already a sure thing my dudes [emoji4][emoji1365]

Anyways, I have been offered a set of the hks cams for quite cheep and I'm tempted...
Yeah, more boost is usually the first thing!

More boost is definitely what I did when I put the hks 2835 pro S on my engine with e85, it already see's 24psi haha it's way out of it's league already but it makes the numbers
Yep...I think you need to consider larger cams for bigger gains then.  I think the 256 profile would be too mild for your car.

It's a Street car so I would rather have epic low down response and a fat midrange and slightly less up top.. with the hks cams, it's kinda like I'm trying to have my cake and eat it..
I don't want to loose any of my response or mid while aiming to pick up a few kw mid-top.

Oh wow you went with the altrack - post pics when u get it i was very close to going for it but found a hks cast and imported that for a good price (much less obiously) - whats the altrack costing landed?

On the hks cams note, loving the convo and in same spot as yourself. I wonder - is there any quantifiable added benefit in the 264 ex. Cam combined with the better flowing ex. manifold (i.e. hks or  altrack)?

Aweosm man!! Not many know of Altrack, so it's a pleasure to see another person who recognises the artwork he produces [emoji4][emoji1365]
I'll definitely be posting up when it's done and in my hands. Will be costing around $3500-$4000aud
I currently run a HPI manifold.

Rb25 256/264 HKS cams acquired!

I've already spoken to my tuner so hopefully well do a power run with my current set up and then swap out the poncams to these hks sticks and re tune.. so without doing anything else but the cams, it should be a pretty decent comparison.

Car is still getting the finishing touches done before tune....hopefully in a month or two m.

i ended up going all out and changed practically every bolt on and power adder hahah so it’s not going to be a direct comparison between the poncams and hks step 1’s unfortunately dudes....I do apologise.

i will still post results once it’s tuned anyways ✌?

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
