im looking at buying a 1995 R33 Skyline. The car is 7/10 condition for its age and is pretty much completely stock. i went and inspected this vehicle but the build plates are missing and the import sticker has been removed and has left the void writing on the car. The cur is registered with vicroads and will come with a RWC too. looking up the rego on vicroads it says the compliance plate date is not available.  ive been told that as the long 17 alpha numeric VIN is stamped on the struct tower/ chassis both aren't needed. though im worried that if the car was to become unregistered for what ever reason i wont be able to re register it again. or that ill end up getting defected by the cops should they check. Can someone help me understand this better as im struggling to find much info on the subject.

SO long as you can prove previous rego its not an issue

I would no a PPRS as a minimum or call DOTARS

Fine for not doing is about $100,000

They made me crush a JDM back in 2005 as it had been imported and left illegally

Lots guys getting cars in illegally and now the asbestos compliance has hit home its a minefield.

Buyer Beware.

Buy with head not heart.

I know this is a little touchy, but care to elaborate on what happened and did they give you any compensation for crushing your car?

A mechanic told me the government are trying to cut down on car parts with similar effects to asbestos such as fibreglass where drilling into them could release cancerous powder. Is all this possible?

A car without a compliance or build plate is going to give you trouble every time you try to do anything with VicRoads or if you get pulled over even if it is legit.
Obviously it's up to you but, i would walk away from this one. (<my two cents).

A car that comes into the country and doesn't get  ADR'd and a vin stamped and issued within a certain amount of time must be crushed, no excuse needed. Contact the department of infrastructure for further clarification as they handle all matters regarding imports. The department liaised with Vicroads for me when I had trouble regarding missing paperwork, and was the only way I was able to register the car. Vicroads do not understand the numbering system.

    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
