Thanks for the reply mate, what are some decent tyres that are good value?

This depends on what you use for car for, weather conditions and how long you expect a tyre to last

Remember that the only thing stopping you from crashing is that small patch of tread

Compromises are sometimes made

Some high performance tyres are rubbish in the wet

I dunno. It's been >10 years since I've tried to put tyres onto a stock 32 wheel. In my size, 235/45-17, I am using Hankook RS4, which are a very decent street tyre that only need to be warmed up a little bit to come good. If I wasn't using those, I'd be using Yoko AD08R, which are still my favourite tyre of the last 10 years. If I was rich I'd probably be using Michi PS4S.

If you're not fussy, then the Bridgestone RE003 is the easy choice. I wasn't impressed by them though. Very indifferent tyre with no outstanding points of performance at all.

Jax do Hankook RS4 for $215 a corner in 225/50 16

I like them, in the dry

I've run them on my MX5, my 86, and they are currently on my SS

I like them alot more than the RE003 in the dry

Just remember 225/50/R16 tyres have MASSIVE sidewalls. I have a mate with a BMW who ended up having to go to AD08R because they make a 225/45/R16 which was way more suitable.

Good tyre though, have had them everywhere, and good for anything on the road and journeyman track days!

Your maths and GTSBoy's maths is right. I just have PTSD about those tyres fitting on another car. Given we're talking about skylines and skyline stock rims on a skyline and stock skyline rolling diamater this is all hunky dory good to go.

Still look like 4 drag tyres though 😛

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
