So what you're saying is that you're looking for an RB30DETT for your GU Patrol

I definitely wouldn't say no.

Honestly,  if I had the funds, I'm very interested in a GU ute.

Yeah Wakie opened again last week.

And to correct the record...only Nissans in this house, other than one hilux paddock basher that I'd love to replace with an equally abused navara, and the tractor

Nice. Did they sort out the neighbours?

Or are they running more restricted?

Plenty of old cheap navaras to be had on market place, once you sort through the "rare, only 5326 made, I know what I've got" crowd.

Massive redevelopment. I believe they built up an earth mount / wall between the track and the complainers. D probably has more info on what they did here.

They now run it both directions also which is cool.

I have one sitting in my front yard right now...

GU, TD42.

It's beside the 105Cruiser.

I nearly said backyard, but then I looked up from the back deck and remembered I moved it back out the front last Thursday.

Is it more a lawn ornament?

Or do you actually drive it?

As bad as their reputation, id probably be looking at a zd30.

I like my niceties. Like cruise control.

This one starts, runs drives, fully registered and functional.

It's actually a mate of mines GU, but it lives here, and I use it whenever I want. It's here to be my tow bitch, and he has another GU TD42 Wagon he drives instead.

Unfortunately I neglected the 105 series and it spat the harmonic balancer backwards into the lower timing cover (it's all gears behind it) and now if you start it it pumps oil everywhere.

It's part of the reason I'm doing huge cleanups down the back, to get the 105 down there, and pull the front of the motor apart.

I always dreamt about getting a GU Coil 4.2TD, slap an R34 GTR frontend on it, RB30DET, and turn it into a Rally Fighter style lifted monstrosity with ridiculous fenders.

BTW you've made a difference already, I think you've doubled SAU's post count in the last 24 hours

They're reliable. Like a patrol is.

Each have their issues. The cruisers issue though wasn't it's fault for this failure. It was mine. I neglected maintenance and drove it for 2 years knowing the harmonic needed replacing. It's in the high 400k mark, on the factory harmonic. It did well.

However, I have destroyed 2 gearboxes in it, and not through abuse (Hilux gearbox was used in the 105 cruiser, and then mine has an aftermarket turbo on the 4.2 1HZ diesel). That gearbox fails in factory spec, but add the extra torque from the turbo and it just strips the half spline on the 3/4 selector hub bit. It now has a "heavy duty" version in there, but even that has limited life. The front diff is a known weak spot if you load it hard in reverse. I have been stupid before, and didn't want to let a mate get me back for needing to pull the cruiser out (he has a Patrol... Yes... That feud... It's real) and for that, I won a stupid prize of a crown wheel looking like it's been using meth...

That said, it sounds like a lot, but when we took it off road, we didn't play on the little iddy bitty tracks, we played on tracks that are cars. And I watched so many others when we said "Don't, your dual cab won't take that line..." Smash diffs, gearboxes, axles, and then the impact damage like cracked sumps, suspension arms, etc.

I'd honestly like to replace the 105 with something more tailored to just towing, and maybe some dirt trails (thinking of getting a caravan in a few years). But there's nothing I can justify cost wise, or that I'd be happy towing with. There's just something to be said sitting in a vehicle as heavy, if not heavier than the trailer you want to tow. (Car trailer, and caravan).

Also, we do want to move to more acreage, so some ground clearance and 4WD will be helpful for traversing through the property at times.

I was browsing car sales last night for 200 series, but they're still just too expensive!

The 200 hold their value, alright.

Honestly, I'm not that bigal a fan of them.

But, it's all personal.

And I think the Toyota vs Nissan feud is as strong as the Holden vs Ford feud.

I hope you get the average. Part of the reason for moving g away from Sydney was to try and get average. Even just 5. But, covid pushed the prices from affordable to unachievable. (380k to over a mil).

I will admit, except for the lack of convenience, I do really like rural life.

What we're looking for will likely be 1-1.5mill, but the jump we've had in the value of this property having bought in early/mid COVID has been a blessing (though it did bump our initial price a bit).

It seems though the rural around here hasn't moved anywhere near as much as suburban. The 1-5 acre places have, but not the really big places, and I only need to go 15-20 further out of the CBD from where I am. And heck, in peak hour, it's only a 40-50 minute drive to the actual CBD from where I am anyway. And thankfully, work is no where near the CBD either, as the traffic turns to shit, I take an exit, and pull into my works car park 😛

Plus side, I also do 10 hour days, 4 days a week, and take a 3 day weekend. Which means I normally skip afternoon peak (or only hit the tail end of it) :D

I'm on the same type of roster.

But over a mil is just over what we can accomplish.

Since we didn't have a deposit pre covid and rented, we were priced out for much longer than we were hoping.

But, I already travel an hour each way to work and don't want to go further out.

Anything closer to work goes up in price.

Larger blocks as well, as developers are trying to buy the area and sub divide.

And we just don't have 2mil + to compete for a 10-100 acre block.

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
    • The axels in my R33 seem tired, and have a bit of play in them. I cannot find any new of course, not interested in buying used, but I am looking to see if anyone can identify some cross compatible axles. In the states I have seen suggested for S chassis the J30 axles, however for the skyline (as best I can tell) the lengths are about an inch off (2.5cm) on both sides. R33 my measure L 22" R 24.5" GPT L 22.5" 24.25" J30 L 23.5" 25.5"  so shaft length is probably an inch wider. Not sure if someone has another still remanufactured option besides the J30. I figured worst case I can buy a pair tear them down and swap the center shaft. My other option was reaching out to GSP to see if they cannot piece together a set, since the axle stubs are still manufactured, I wouldn't think it be that hard to find a shaft or make a shaft work.
    • Potentially some interesting data for some of you here; Hank Iroz from Iroz Motorsport testing a new Xona Rotor 5964S on a Audi RS3 2.5L DAZA motor. https://facebook.com/share/p/14EU18MyDqZ/ Cliff Notes: Turbo has the new Xona XRE compressor aero with an X4C compressor cover, reportedly 0.64 rear housing. 900whp (670kw) @ 37psi, 170k shaft speed, motor is making 2bar (29psi) boost by roughly 3800rpm, 500lbft (670nm) torque by 3500rpm. They overlaid a stock RS3 on USA 91 fuel (red), and a "Stage 2" RS3 on E85 (yellow), and this 5964S (blue) - the 5964S isn't losing any ground to either. Apparently out-flowing their prior tests with a Xona 8264S (green), and this 5964S (white) also has a smaller A/R than that did.
