Hey Guys,

I am getting my RB26DETT 98 Silvia back tomorrow after being shipped halfway across the country....

Here's the pics and vids.... www.undergroundmotorsports.com

I am a little concerned as the sound of the motor in the vids sounds a little off...

The motor has cams and some head work....

I don't have any experience with the GTR's, so this is the first GTR motor I've heard...

Something sounds a little off to me... But the shop that performed the work feels confident everything is cool....

Opinions are greatly appreciated...

Chris Riggs

I had a listen, the only one where you can here it is when it drives off in the car park, it sounded ok to me :D The shots of it running its hard to hear the motor clearly

No smoke coming out of it, thats always a good sign

Just keep a eye on the knock level on the PFC hand controller :)

Firstly Underground. Excellent choice mate :D

In the second vid I can hear what you're talking about. The car seems to have a lot of trouble idling stably. Could be a tuning problem, or fuel delivery problem (doubtful as it clears up when he revs it), dirty/incorrect spark plugs or an air leak. When you get the car I would whack a fresh set of plugs in it (ensuring they are gapped properly) check all the inlet plumbing (from the MAFs to the turbos, turbos to IC, IC to plenum - everything). See how that goes. The engine seems ok though, think of it as more of an ancillary problem.

Enjoy :)

My car did the same with the PFC plugged, when at idle it would go up and down always hunting. What I did was go into the Idle settings and bumped the second idle setting up to 1270 I think.Have a go at playing with different settings, you wont do no harm.

Nice beast to :aroused:

On the PFC put more fuel into it, at idle and see what happens.

I had a similar problem with a Rb25, upped the fuel intake at idle and ran heaps smoother. Also is it idling at 750 - 800 or lower? Also is your exhaust straight through? With a hollow cat ? and how many resonators do you have on your exhaust system ?

  • 2 weeks later...

What plugs do I buy? What part #? Obviously nobody here in the states is gonna know RB series part numbers?

Also, what should I gap them at? Or do they come bolt-in from the package?

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
