damn, 2.01.42, I would have won the class on Saturday by about 1.5 seconds. bugger.

Congrats to Andrew on some top times, and to Chris for acheiving such close times with an undoubtably inferior setup

That final sprint was top fun, I spent about 1/2 lap side by side with one of those jag race cars after taking him under brakes at honda...shame the brakes died at the end of that lap.

A good weekend and well done to everyone brave enough to give it a go

In the supersprint I slowed down to wait for Emre to show him some lines, But as soon as I saw the WRX closing in on me instead of the chacoal monster. I knew it was time to boot it, cause I couldn't let a WRX beat me in the supersprint. I'm glad I went for it, cause that next lap was my best.

OK, thanks to bec here's a heap of photos (unfortunately I had the camera on the wrong setting on sat so some of the photos are blurry ;) )

Anyway....

Actually that was a very unlucky incident.

I've seen quite a few skylines blow off cooler pipes over the years, but this is the only one I've ever seen where the fuel caught fire. Very unlucky, but Geoff was quick with the fire extinguisher.

Ronin 09 I'm afraid it looks like all of Melbourne's 32 drivers are a bit short on balls ;) But then again I only saw 1 GTST out there as well, which is a shame because now these gtr drivers think they are unbeatable :)

It's true, that was me. Was coming over the finish line in 5th at 220kmh and POP. Off came a turbo hose. I had been stuffing around looking for a leak and in my haste left one clamp a little loose. The hose blew completely off so no forced air was making it to the engine. What I couldn't see was the flame out the exhaust as the car overfuelled due to the AFM seeing plenty of intake air. There was a slight heat shimmer but that was all.

One of the flaggies was waving blue and yellow which was kinda strange as I should have got meatball, but I was just rolling around to the turn 4 exit anyway. Then in the exit lane I was told the car was on fire so I pulled over onto gravel and Al was coming down the pit lane. He grabbed the Fire Ext as I was climbing out and put the fire out (Good man Al!!). Then the fireys arrived to cool the melting plastic off with foam.

I already have a price on the tail light and I will repair the rest with ally flashing for the race cred look.

  • 2 weeks later...

Guys who were there on the day, i've almost finished editing the footage from the day so stay tuned. P.M me and give me your e-mail addresses and let see if we can work out a way to get the DVD out to the folks there on the day.

It was my first day with this camera so its not exactly the most professional of videos especially with the crappy tripod I was using however I've gone to the trouble of putting in some cheesy "techno" music to try and make it full siiiiiik.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
